Canadians Upbeat On Future State Of Relations With U.S

Twenty-one per cent of the respondents said they were "very optimistic," and another 51 said they were "somewhat optimistic" that Canada and the U.S. would be on good terms. Only six per cent were "very pessimistic" and another 19 per cent "somewhat pessimistic" about the prospects for good relations between the two countries. "I think there's a lot of goodwill there," said ACS executive director Jack Jedwab. "We like our neighbours. We are frequent visitors to the U.S. They're our most important trading partner. There's a lot of interaction and interchange, and we don't want to have bad relations." He says Canadians, for the most part, distinguish between a current White House administration under U.S. President George Bush that's highly unpopular in this country and the United States in general - its people, its history, its culture.
