I'm sort of glad that Mr. Martin is saying these things. It almost gives me hope that Mr. Martin isn't trying to sell the rest of Canada over to the U.S.

I agree, Susan, Martin is on the pot! Although the conservatives are the worse of the two evils, the difference isn`t all that much!

Kevin, remember no matter what Martin 'says' ...what has he done, he is behind the BMD system talks, he was in charge when the Lockheed Martin deal was made...that is just two examples of his plan to Americanize us! Not to mention he was the one who cut social funding, ie healthcare payments which opened the door to provinces becoming creative with private clinics etc.as in U.S. style healthcare!

I want lower taxes! Can I get lower taxes?!?! Anyone?!?!

The way I see it is that if corporations started to pay their fair share of taxes, and the government stopped wasting our money; at the very least our taxes would not go up, and in the long run could be reduced! If you think about the millions and possibly billions of dollars our governments at the provincial and fed levels have wasted in the last 10-20 yrs it is unbelievable; and if you think of what could have been done with that money???

Anon, you want lower taxes ? Move to the US and pay for your own healthcare.

Funny, the young folks don't see the benefit of healthcare, that's because they are immortal and indestructible.

I was your age once, and now I see things from a different perspective.

Wait until your family has grown up and left the nest, you will think that healthcare is more important than lower taxes.

Trust me. You won't believe me at this point in your life, but you will get there.

    It's called the "Generation Gap".

You won't understand until you are where I am.

Jim I think that understanding actually happens before the children leave the nest, especially if you happen to have a sick child or children, or you become ill while trying to care for children.

The cost of medical needs, isn't just the medicine, when you add up the medical bills they incure in the U.S. for basic treatment, then if you can't work, or your company doesn't have benefits; you'll find out how important universal health care really is.

Can you imagine having a child that develops cancer or some other critical illness and you as the parent can't afford treatment!!!I sure wouldn't want that burden, and that is what Canada has always tried to ensure, that no one under any circumstances is denied heathcare. I don't think Harper or Martin are too concerned about those issues.

Whatever happens, we must vote Martin in, because Harper will be more focused on the American reactions than the general Canadian citizens when it comes to a major event in the future that we don't need to be involved. The evil that is known (Paul Martin) is better than the one that is not (Steven Harper).

As I quote Jean Chretien in 2001, he said, Steven Harper is so pro-American that, "he would bend over and let the Americans kick him and then turn around as ask the Americans if their foot hurt."

I agree that we need to revamp our military but that doesn't mean that we have to test them out at the first call by Americans (or Brits). We must see our own interest in it.

I fully agree with you. We must definitely pay attention to our Health care and it is very important that the young people pay attention because they are the ones who are going to pay for the huge clog that the Baby Boomers are creating for Healthcare. Healthcare is important and it must be aided as much as possible. But one thing that this election is not doing is that there is no focus on Culture development. We should be campaigning for more money into Cutlure programmes and cultural promotions.

I agree that culture in Canada is underfunded, also the school system which would teach about OUR culture, our history and role in the world with a truly Canadian point of view, is missing. If we don't teach these things to the youth how can we expect them to embrace our culture or fund it now or in the future. Also, if Canada doesn't remain sovereign just exactly how much funding will we have for our culture.

If we continue to allow our politicians to Americanize us do you think Quebec will have a 'distinct' society status in the new America, will our Bilingual policy still stand??? I don't see in the current U.S. policy, they have a French Culture, a Spanish Culture etc. but do any of them have any services offered in their own language? If we want to protect and encourage more funding for culture in this country, we must remain a sovereign country!

    WHAT?

Most of the cities I've been to in Canada and even around the world, look more like the United States than the United States. If Martin thinks the Liberals have been saving us from looking more like the U.S. what else can be done besides taking down the border and raising the U.S. flag over the only building not flying one - the parliament building.
