Tourists Fined For Gun Charges

Posted on Wednesday, June 15 at 09:05 by jensonj
A search of their RV revealed four undeclared handguns. Three were .38 calibre and the other was a larger .357-calibre. All were loaded and found in various places in the vehicle. Mr. Hunt and Ms. Ady were charged with failing to declare the guns and with making false statements. Charges against Mr. Hunt were withdrawn by the Crown. Ms. Ady pleaded guilty to failing to report goods under the Customs Act.

What would have happened to a Canadian if the situation was reversed? Would a Canadian be treated the same or would a Canadian be charged as a gun runner or terrorist? Ah?

Personally I would hope the idiots get the book thrown at them for lying about it. Have them forfeit the loaded guns and ammo, pay court costs, pay hefty fines, and yes, perhaps give them a short lockup just for being stupid. And now to the more important aspect, if they were Canadians on the US side I would hope authorities did the same! Nobody needs to keep multiple loaded handguns in an RV and they have no good reason lying about it when looking to cross into another country.

Why in the world would anyone need FOUR handguns on a vacation. I know that some US citizens use guns like cell phones (keep them in their pockets and use them often?) but I cannot understand a regular citizen needing that amount of "protection?".

Of course, maybe they just feel comfortable with their few guns around them when they travel.

Such a completely foreign concept to you Canucks, I know, but where they come from, it just might be so.

No right to enjoy target practice, no right to self-defense, no right to carry arms... welcome to Canada.

On the contrary, I was target practicing yesterday. And I have every right to do so. I can even bring my handguns to the local mall, where I can rent a target lane by the hour. Any Joe off the street can go there and rent a gun, with ammo, by the hour as well. No permit required.
There is no 'right to carry' handguns in public for but a few civillians. Only Law Enforcment personelle can carry a handgun, and not all of them can ethier.
What I don't have a right to do is cross the border to the United States carrying 4 concealed, loaded handguns.
Was there not a Canadian who crossed the U.S. Border to buy gas but was arrested by U.S. authorities as a terrorist for having a hunting shotgun in his truck that he did not declare? Did not the border go through the town in which he lived and did he not buy his gas at the same place for years? Is he still in jail there after 6 months?

Talk about a level playing field!

Sort of similar situation. The 'gas' was across the street, but the border crossing was down the road further south. He would have had to drive further out of town and further across the border to declare he was crossing the border.

Technically, he did cross the border with a loaded gun, but he didn't pass through customs doing it.
