David Suzuki Foundation TV Commercial

Posted on Saturday, May 01 at 07:09 by KevinGagnon

You see, Prime Minister Martin told us he agreed with our report, Sustainability Within a Generation. He said he supported the switch to a clean, low-polluting economy.

Problem is, he hasn't done anything yet. Now, whatever the reason, we're sure he could use some encouragement. In fact, all of parliament could use a shot in the arm.

That's why we created a TV commercial (which we think is pretty funny) to encourage Ottawa to clean up its act and invest in a clean, innovative economy. We've got billboards and transit ads in Toronto and Ottawa to support the message too.

All we need now is your help to spread the word! Check out the TV commercial. If you think it's funny and informative, use the features on our website to tell your friends. Share it with everyone you know!

You can also email the prime minister, donate to help us get this commercial on televisions across the country or even send a text message to party leaders.

It's not often you get to make a difference and have fun too. Here's your chance. Go for it!

I thought Iceland was the leader in geothermal energy? They pretty much use geothermal for heating homes and producing electricity??<p> Not a bad ad though.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

The fifth day of a five day forecast is accurate 20% of the time and guys like Suzuki can tell us what the weather will be like a hundred years from now? In a word, no. Certainly we should try to be efficient with energy use and minimize pollution, but to base policy on pseudo-science/pop culture gurus is bad policy for everyone. Having studied climatology previously I found it to be much the same as other sciences like medicine, way more questions than answers. Climate is a hugely complex phenomenon and these prophets of global warming almost seem to have a god complex, give it a break, we're only human even if we do have adulatory TV shows made about us.

The best explanation I've heard is this: We are currently running a giant experiment on our global climate, without a control(in the experimentation sense) and without any real idea what the results will be. While it may turn out that nothing devastating will come of it, I don't like the entire planet being used as a guinea pig to prove it.

Further, there is absolutely no harm in reducing our energy consumption. At the very least, it means our resources will last longer. If it postpones global catastrophe, even better.

I agree with you that climatology leaves alot of questions unanswered. But to blow off climate change as pseudo-science is dangerous.

If we threaten Mother Earth much longer she will treat us as a cancer or virus and develop her own antiviral exterminator or cancer cure so that she can go on living. We're all pretty arrogant when it comes to believing in our self-importance in the scheme of things. Be warned. DON'T MESS WITH MOTHER NATURE! The planet will be here long after we're gone.

There is not one peer reviewed Journal in the last 25 years that denies global warming. Suzuki isn't just saying this, real ecologists and the world's greatest minds are aware of global warming and climate change because of human activity. To dismiss the libraries full of scientific data and evidence of global warming is to be intentionally ignorant. At the beginning of this century every living system on the planet was in decline. There are no shortage of right-wing/anti-science/pro-god ideologues out there who can call all of this "junk science" but if we are serious about solutions to the global problems that are upcoming it is certainly not wise to take this positions.
You cannot extract and then waste perpetually in your habitat and expect that there will be no ecological reaction. To think this violates Malthus, and more important Evolution by Natural Selection. There are Finite resources on this planet, our population is growing, resource consumption is growing, pollution is off the charts in developing nations and little if anything is being done to reduce burning fossil fuels in developed nations.
Organisms Live based on sucessful genotypes from past generations while adapting to their current environments in order to reproduce for the future. If we destroy our planet (no matter how slow the destruction is) we will alter our species and may render this planet uninhabitable for future generations.
Once again, dismissing what scientists discover, while we may want to disagree, is certainly unwise.
