Canadian Airports Not Planning Security Boost

Posted on Monday, June 04 at 10:11 by jensonj
"At this stage, our airport screening operations are going on as normal. CATSA is following and analyzing the situation with Transport Canada," said Anna-Karina Tabunar from Montreal on Saturday. "From what we are told the threat appears to be an isolated situation," said Tabunar. But officials at Canada's largest airport, Toronto's Pearson International, which served 31 million passengers last year, are taking note. Scott Armstrong, media relations manager for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, said Saturday that anytime something happens that may affect an airport that's the size of Toronto's airport they'll take a look at procedures and protocols. "Anytime there's an arrest like this whether a terrorist plot or a security risk, obviously we watch it," said Armstrong. "Based on the evidence that comes out and based on the case that's presented, our security staff take it away, review what's in place now and take any necessary steps to make the airport as safe as possible," said Armstrong. "You'd always want to be vigilant. ... Again, I wouldn't say we aren't at risk," Butko said. "So I certainly wouldn't say there is no threat but I don't think people should get too worried at this time." http://www.canada.com:80/montrealgazette/story.html?id=8645920a-df6f-4b40-a9db-ec878ed7f5e8 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 4, 2007]

"they were planning to destroy JFK airport and kill thousands of people by blowing up a jet fuel artery that runs through residential neighbourhoods."

It's a damned good thing they are spending millions to prevent tooth paste, water, and nail clippers from being carried on with passengers, otherwise diabolical plots like this one would actually happen. from time to time.

Jet fuel won't burn even if you toss a match into it, instead the match would be extinguished. My only question is where do they find these idiot patsies for the annual terrist award, or are all of them CIA informants?

Be afraid, be very afraid or the terrists will getcha! All you need to do is let me protect you, but I can't do it unless you bow before my feet and do silly things like stand on your head and count to 100 while rubbing your belly.

Doesn't Jet-A have to be atomized in order to ignite in the first place?

This sounds like another bogieman story designed to make people afraid.

It's not like all the planes are running high test AvGas, these are intercontinental jet aircraft.

Better watch out, Dubyuh's gonna gitcha ya nasty terrerist.

Good thing 100% of these plots have informants on the inside, otherwise there'd be no terrist stories to tell. <br><br> "NEW YORK - Four men accused of plotting to bomb a fuel pipeline feeding the city's busiest airport were so <strike>taken</strike> well paid by an informant that they were sure God had sent him to them, <strike>authorities</strike> the planners of the scam said." <br><br> <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070604/ap_on_re_us/terrorism_plot">Informant helped bust alleged JFK plot</a> <br><br> "<strike>Authorities</strike> The spin doctors said the plot, revealed Saturday, demonstrated the growing importance of <strike>informants</strike> instigators in efforts to <strike>combat</strike> make up terrorism, particularly as smaller radical groups become <strike>more aggressive</strike> less believable."

You're on the right track RG.

The 'informant' was in trouble for dealing drugs, and needed an 'out'. So he turned rat on these guys who had no support structure, no money and no firm commitment to this 'attack'.

Not to mention, if that fuel line had been tampered with by someone wishing to 'atomize' the fuel, the pipeling would have shut down on it's own.

Good thing they weren't trying to buy fertilizer.
