Today, PM Harper will be visiting President Bush in the White House for discussions on a wide range of topics. It will be a nice change of pace for the President, as he has grown accustomed to Canadian officials — especially prime ministers — whose far left ideologies sharply contradict that of the present Administration. More than anything else, PM Harper's visit reemphasizes his deep commitment to strong relations with the United States, which have suffered some setbacks in recent years.
Mr. Bush also can expect a major improvement in atmospherics after years of prickly relations with Liberal Party governments, whose members were accused at times of adopting anti-American positions to score political points.[...]
"Canadians take a very pragmatic view about their relationship [with America]," said Tim Woolstencroft, managing partner of Strategic Counsel, a research firm based in Ottawa. "We want to have good relations with the United States and resolve issues and concerns."

Next, Canada will provide nuclear power to give the US with the energy they need(want). Bush swears the USA will soon be free of foreign energy and obviously Canada will not be considered a "foreign" country.

I also saw a Catholic priest interviewed on the National last night. He had a common name, John Smith, and was refused access between two Canadian cities. He tried to clear himself and was asked to show a passport and he refused on principle. Show a passport in Canada for a Canadian flight? FThat! It seems that now that Harper is in government all hell is breaking loose. Everything's on fast track while he has the chance to do his dirty deed.

“Earlier this year I had given a radio interview about my circumstances on CBC’s The Current. Immediately after the interview I was surreptitiously contacted by Jean Lapierre’s assistant. He told me he had classified information which would help clarify matters for me. Upon meeting him I was subtly told to “back-off”. Instead of being told anything helpful, I was asked what my political leanings were as a syndicated political cartoonist and that all my attempts to get any type of answer would be stonewalled at the Ministry of Transportation. I was also told that the more media presence I gave the case the “thicker and thicker” my file would get.”
Add political cartoons and Antiwar slogan T-shirts to the list of things we can be grateful to be kept safe from. I can picture at various destinations along the sleepy Canadian consciousness a few who have heard the story focus long enough to squint menacingly in direction of Ottawa in a very un-Canadian-like way before concluding that it’s only a false alarm, cause their name is Smith or Baker and they know better than to rattle the cages of power with edgy political cartoons. Forget that the same mechanisms and rogue maneuvers, out of public sphere of accountability and transparency, that boxed in Shahid can snare a Smith or a Baker just as nicely, the necessity just hasn’t arisen yet.
