Sabotaging U.S. Sovereignty

Posted on Monday, August 21 at 09:14 by jensonj
The name of this effort is called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) and, guess what, it has not been submitted to the Senate for its oversight or concurrence because, by some magic of governmental definition, it is not a treaty. Instead, its administration is buried in the bowels of the Commerce Department. It does have, however, the blessing of the political and corporate elites of all three nations. A visit to the SPP Internet website (www.spp.gov) says it “was launched in March of 2005 as a trilateral effort to increase security and enhance prosperity among the United States, Canada and Mexico through greater cooperation and information sharing.” It is an attack on American sovereignty. In the smoothest and most soothing writing you will find anywhere, the website spells out the wonders of SPP. They include the North American Competitiveness Council, the North American Energy Security Initiative, the North American Emergency Management plan, and plans for “smart, secure borders.” And right now there are “working groups” whose purpose is to “improve productivity, reduce the costs of trade, and enhance the quality of life.” And if you like snake oil, permit SPP to sell it to you by the barrel, but the boxcar, and by the tanker. © Alan Caruba, 2006 http://newsbyus.com/more.php?id=4983_0_1_0_M [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 21, 2006]

The NAU, NAFTA, etc. are not designed for maintaining national sovereignty. The common people of the world are all faced with this type of imperialism and should really unite against it. The Council of Canadians seems to be the only entity here that is really fighting the annexation of Canada and Mexico. Although the above article suggests that the U.S. would lose its sovereignty in SPP/NAU, I would suggest that almost all of the "harmonization" will result in the wholesale adoption of U.S. policies and standards by the new North American Union. Of course, the level of de facto annexation that has already occurred severely muddles the question of sovereignty for Canada. Have we already been annexed?

The Canadian Action Party is also doing what it can to fight this scheme to hand over even more power to the business community. See http://www.canadianactionparty.ca

My mistake not to mention CAP as well as CoC. The Canadian Action Party is truly unique among the politicos and certainly has some valid approaches to problems that the other parties shy away from. The problem is that Canadians cannot see past the Conservative and Liberals. Although I support the CAP I am currently working within the NDP trying to sway them to more CAP-like policies at the grass roots level (especially in regard to NAU/NAFTA). I am waiting to see what happens at the national convention next month, kinda holding my breath.
