For Harper, his claim that he can balance the books with tax cuts and selective spending increases is one of the most controversial issues in the election. Liberal leader Paul Martin talks of a "$50 billion black hole" over the coming years between what Harper claims he can generate in income versus expenses. And many top economists, some with deep Conservative ties, are dismissing Harper's platform as financially unworkable.
What's critical in this debate is that Harper fails to mention that for his fiscal plan to work, it would require deep cuts in everything from food inspections to federal prisons and Canada's space program.

Well it looks like we won't have to worry about these areas, say we have the FBI,CIA and Texas Marshalls' to look after the previous IA, Stats Can, Supreme Court and CSIS, prisons and RCMP...wow look at the downsizing; Nuclear Safety ...who needs it, we'll be into Star Wars by then and there'll be nothing safe...Human Rights?, oh go on with you...Immigration ? why? Environment and agriculture is already well influenced by the U.S. so why not the agencies?
Yep looks like Harper's plan will work and save us a whole lot of money...not to mention the entire country...but whatever...as Harper says, 'who cares'....

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?
Whelan,
That's pretty much how read this article too. If we're integrated there will be no need for duplicate security etc... . It's easy to understand why Harper is not making a living as an economist. He's much better as a used country salesman.
