Harper is one of those politicians who not only realizes that politics can be a dirty business...he relishes the fact. From the way he shamelessly manipulated the conservative party (with back room boy help) and turned it into a pale imitation of the alliance party to the way he now 'embraces' Ontario, it's clear his goal is one thing.

    Power!

At all and any cost this man will have power. And now, if we are not careful and if the Libs keep on fumbling, he will have it. Probably watered down with a minority govt. I have seen minority goverments work well and fail miserably. It's all in the will of the leaders of the party. All parties have an eye toward winning, but there is a supposed higher reason for achieving this power. That is, to govern Canada so that it runs well and performs for the good of the people. The people. Not financial backers or idealogue think tanks or big business.

Klein and Harper are cut from the same cloth. Slash taxes for the rich, privatize, deregulate and build up an enormous army.

    Sound familiar.

Karl rove would be proud of Harper. And so would the Resident (spelling my own) of the U.S. Georgie Bush.

It is difficult to judge the promises of a party or leader who hasn't been in power. With Paul Martin and the liberal party this is not the case. Paul Martin presided as finance minister over a $100 billion tax cut that went in large part to the wealthy and to corporations. Meanwhile he kept $40 billion in EI overpayments and set up health and education for the position they are in today. With the newest budget it is clear that it is going to be more of the same. Mere token funding for various causes and Canadians left as confused about the government as ever. Goodale is just a Martin-clone. Don't hesitate those of you who know. Judge by the record, not the words. Paul Martin is doing the sneaky way, what Harper wants to plainly. Vote NDP unless another opposition party is formed that can challenge the system.

If we are standing still we are moving backwards.
