Pontiff's Canada Criticism 'pastoral Concern'

While meeting Smith and other Ontario bishops at the Vatican on Sept. 8, the Pope said Canada had excluded "God from the public sphere" with its laws on gay marriage and abortion. "In the name of tolerance, your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse, and in the name of freedom of choice, it is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children," the pontiff told the Canadian bishops.
