I never liked her as a candidate. Her failure will discourage something the country desperately needs - new blood. Or worse, she succeeds.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." My prediction is that Steven Harper will win, but the new conservative party will win less votes then the NDP in this upcoming election. The polls show that the new conservative party is loosing points, and has less support then before the merge. Once there they have a leader, the conservative party will loose more points.

With Harper winning, the new conservative party will loose some support amongst their own members who already don\'t want Harper as the leader. Some of these conservatives within the party are not as right wing as Harper, which is why again I believe that they will loose more support once they have a leader.

Personally I think Peter Mackay would have been the only one to be a real strong opponent to Harper.

If Peter Mackay would\'ve been the only solid challenger to Harper, than Canad needs help! Although I hate his policies, Tony Clement is the youngest, bilingual, and the most eloquent.

An anecdote: Rick Mercer\'s Monday Report was good again, after an off week or two. As much as people criticize it, at least it\'s a relatviely high-quality show on a reasonable budget, telling Canadian stories.

...On Monday\'s show, Mercer and Broadbent had a comical, and enjoyable troll around Ottawa, with Broadbent\'s clever sense of humour, Mercer\'s NDP jokes, and Boradbetn\'s witty replies--which ended with Broadbent and Mercer making snow angels at Parliament Hill. It was the most heartwarming thing I\'ve ever seen a politician do. I swear, you\'ve gotta love it.

Oh yeah, that young woman has really revitalized Royal Canadian Air Farce, too. What a show yesterday! It\'s funnier than the original now, in my opinion.

    Perturbed,

I said that MacKay would be the only strong opponent to Harper cause he is the only one I can see having conservative support within the new party. If the many members who transfered over to the new party had voted MacKay in the first place. He must have support there.

Anyways, I think my prediction is pretty accurate [time will tell] that this new conservative party won\'t do so well in the upcoming election.

First, I definitely think we need more women in politics. My quarrel with Stronach is that\'s she a rich conservative. I don\'t care what clothes she wears--and I think the media has been fixating on that in a way they never would if she were male.

Second, I don\'t see why the conservative party should have a lot of support right now. No leader, no solid platform. Are they PC or Alliance or just a muddled mix of both? If they finally develop a strong message they may be able to attract more support, but here\'s hoping that doesn\'t happen.

I agree Susan, with both comments, and besides the clothes issue, which I have never heard a comment on the suits, shoes etc. of any man,( with the exception of Trudeau\'s lapel,)what I object to about Stronach is that she doesn\'t appear to know the issues which she is suppose to be promoting. That makes her look like a puppet, which she may be, of course I\'m not really concerned with who wins the leadership of the pc party,(as I\'m not impressed with any of the male reps either) but I really hate it when the few women in politics that do get media, are bad examples. There are women in politics with intelligent messages we just don\'t see or hear them.

I agree we need more women in politics, but the trend has reversed itself over the past several years.

We need PR to make that happen. Look around the world, in countries that use PR to elect their politicians, the number of women in government is much higher, and they aren\'t just there for looks, some have very important duties.

There have been women running the country, not just in Asia, but Europe as well.

Clothes don\'t make the woman, but our media still doesn\'t get it. Of course, just look who our media is.

I\'m not voting for Belinda come hell or high water, but she is not a good representative of a wannabe politician.

If Mulroney is true to form, he\'ll push her out on stage and let her fall flat on her face, just like he did to Kim Campbell. Just hang her out to swing in the wind.

Grinning all the time because he knew he was dead politically in this country.

Here\'s the thing that gets me, she has never run for any position in politics but she steps on to the stage and wants to be head of the party...anybody ever hear about starting at the bottom, you know get some experience, maybe see how the electorate respond to your positions on issues, ooh yeh, have a position on issues,

Gee I want to be the Prime Minister, ok it\'s yours
I realize that some people can be bought, but not the entire electorate, can they???

Susan, i think the (neo)conservatives have a very good chance of winning federally. The Ontario govt is now Liberal. The country has a long standing tradition of going opposite to the party in power in Queens Park.

How will they do it? simple. Adopt every liberal and ndp promise of substance. Want more women in politics? no problem, the Conservatives will roll out the red carpet for women. Want the hindu, pullstart and honkykong vote? no problem, they will be assured of tax rebates for their offshore holdings, and first in-line treatment for passports and dual citizenship. Just like their buddies that fly regular to the hobby farm outside Jerusalem.

Worried about swing ridings? no problem, the vote machines will be rigged to produce the desired outcome - they dont want it too obvious. Worried about spending? no problem, a call will be put into the BOC, and with a flick of the wrist, more money will be created to spend spend spend, for every do-gooder project your heart desired.

Ms. Stronach a problem? not really. she\'s designed to be a palaver for the manipulators. A cog in the wheel to facilitate the elevation of the real candidate.

Everything is going according to plan. The jackboots are being polished right now. The leaders are trying on their charlie chaplin moustaches. The huddled masses cower in front of their televisions, waiting, waiting, waiting for their next set of instructions.

Conservative are going to take it Susan. The axis of evil elites want it, and they\'ll get it.
