Unfortunately, having Mr. Baird crated up and shipped off to Atlanta like an ebola-infected monkey is likely Canada's last chance at not being punished by the international community as a gaggle of irresponsible children.
That Baird is a shirker is obvious. Only a shirker would blame all of his problems on somebody else, in Baird's case the Liberals, and use that as an excuse not to perform his duties or meet his obligations. Only a shirker would pretend to be honouring an agreement while walking away from it. Only a shirker would make false claims in order to avoid doing hard work. Only a shirker would refuse to listen to the people he is supposed to represent.
Most of all though, only a shirker would refuse to bring forth a bill that he and his leader agreed to have rewritten by representatives of all four parties represented in Parliament. Mr. Baird and Mr. Harper made a promise when they agreed to have Bill C-30 rewritten. The special committee that was formed wrote the bill and every clause was voted on. There is nothing in the bill that wasn't arrived at through the democratic decision of the people who were assigned to write it. For Mr. Baird to ignore that process and ignore the will of the majority of the representatives of the people of Canada shows him to have no accountability whatsoever.
That brings us to Mr. Baird's cowardice. That cowardice is moral, political, and personal.
This is a man who not only lacks the intestinal fortitude to do what has to be done, but is so fearful of the Canadian public, the press, and his fellow parliamentarians, that he not only evades the truth, but does his best to keep others from revealing that truth.
At his recent announcement of his alleged green plan, Mr. Baird made sure that there was nobody present who might contradict him or tell the press about the many, many inadequacies of his plan. He refuses to bring the rewritten Bill C-30 to be debated and voted on in the House of Commons. He refuses to answer questions during Question Period or when asked by the press. The answers and statements Baird gives are so far removed from the facts that only a frightened child would try to foist them on adults. That is political cowardice, the simpering evasions of a man not fit to be allowed out in public, never mind hold office.
Baird's moral cowardice is apparent as well. Anyone ready and willing to trade the future well-being of his country and his planet for the short-term gain of a few political backers and millionaires lacks any moral standing whatsoever. Only somebody with no moral courage at all would allow short term gains for the very wealthy to trump the long-term well-being of future generations.
That brings us to the matter of Baird's dishonesty. Unfortunately, this is going to be the longest section. We could call him a prevaricator, a dissembler, or a fabricator. We could also go with that old fashioned standby and just call him a liar. Somebody who does not tell the truth is, after all, a liar. Mr. Baird has a long record of not telling the truth. All indications are that Mr. Baird is congenitally incapable of telling the truth.
When Mr. Baird says that Stephane Dion and the Liberals did nothing for 13 years, he is lying. They were ineffective and didn't meet their goals, but the Liberals did several things over 13 years. Several of the most effective Liberal policies have been cancelled, then brought back by the Harper government. If the Liberals did nothing, why is Mr. Baird stealing their programs?
The 13 year figure itself is inherently dishonest. Canada never ratified the Kyoto Protocol until late 2002, less than five years ago. The Chretien government did so despite the screams, from the same basic party that Baird now belongs to, that we would face certain doom. While Chretien failed to take action, and should be vilified for that failure, it must be understood that the Reform/Alliance/Conservative Party was very effective at opposing Kyoto. They enlisted their friends in the oil patch and in the US government to bring the science into question, scare the general population into thinking that Kyoto meant certain ruin, and to try to undermine the process. When Baird forgets to mention that, he is committing a lie of omission.
The most effective part of that undermining was the pressure placed on Russia, mostly by Steve Harper's good friend George Bush, not to ratify the protocol. Without Russia's ratification the deal would have fallen apart. Russia didn't ratify the deal until 2004. As a result, it became international law in early 2005.
Now there is no doubt that the Chretien government should have acted sooner and should have had a solid plan up and running before they ratified the deal, but every time John Baird says something along the lines of "13 years of Liberal inaction" he is lying. He's been around long enough to know that too.
The other highly misleading statement that Baird likes to spout from his gaping maw is that Dion is somehow personally responsible for the Liberals' failure to meet Kyoto. That's not true either. Dion did not become Minister of the Environment until Paul Martin's last, very short, term. While Dion may or may not have had input in caucus and in cabinet before that time, it was not his file. Any influence he had would have been limited and it was Prime Minister Chretien calling the shots. Baird knows this, as does every member of parliament.
There is one other set of lies that Mr. Baird likes to tell. He likes to try to make us think that meeting our Kyoto commitments would destroy the country financially.
Throughout human history there has never been a technological advance that did not increase wealth, or at least the wealth of working people. The discovery of the pointed stick brought us more food. The industrial revolution brought us from subsistence farming and serfdom to a middle class and at least the illusion of democracy. The invention of the automobile brought us wealth as well as mobility. The computer age brought money and knowledge. Technology creates wealth for working people.
Mr. Baird tells us that developing and implementing the technologies required to reduce our emissions will bring us poverty. In this case, I don't know if John Baird is purposely lying to us or whether he's just completely ignorant. Perhaps the brain flukes ate that part of his brain too.
At any rate, auto workers are still working whether they are putting v-8 motors in retro-styled muscle cars or hybrid systems in compact cars. Houses receiving retrofits of insulation and new doors and windows creates jobs. Designing new, efficient buildings creates jobs. Building and running mass transit creates jobs.
The other part of Baird's economic lie, is another lie of omission. Members of the EU have already said that they want to levy trade sanctions against countries that aren't compliant with the Kyoto Protocol. If we don't meet our obligations, they will impose tariffs and duties on us. So will the wealthy, and Kyoto compliant, countries of Asia. If Mr. Baird really wants to hurt the Canadian economy, having the EU and Japan impose sanctions on us is a sure way to do it.
Mr. Baird never mentions any of this of course, yet he must be aware of the many calls for sanctions. Unless he wants all of our trade to be with the United States, Mexico, and China, there is no excuse for Baird not taking this into consideration.
Mr. Baird is currently rolling out a green plan based on the original Clean Air Act that he dragged into parliament dead on arrival. Jack Layton and the NDP asked for that act to be revived in a special all-party committee. The act was rewritten and, according to most parliamentarians and environmentalists, is now a very powerful piece of legislation. John Baird is refusing to bring the act into the House to be debated and voted on. Instead he is continuing his pattern of prevarication, cowardice, and irresponsibility. The opposition parties should insist that he brings the act forward or bring down the Harper government.
down the Harper government."
I totally agree with that statement! And then, because the act has been a
collective one, it should be brought forward immediately by the next
government
in power as delays, cancellations, renamed and reimplemented Liberal
environment policy and rewrites of Liberal policy, so far, have been the only
"plan" we've had from the yet again renamed Reformers - the Government of
Canada's "New Blamers and Liars Party".

Have you ever given thought to why it is, the environment has never been addressed. Well political parties do not what these wrongs fixed, if they did, and these simple problems were solved, they (parties) would be of NO USE.
Lets look at Elizabeth May and Justin Trudeau, both were activists, both appear to have the best interest of Canada in mind and they may very well be serious. Once these two come under the control of the Green Party and Liberal Parties rules and the parties constitution , they lose their innocents. These rules and party constitutions are a handicap to Canada.
There are many good people in Ottawa, but those good honest people are rendered useless all because of the party system…we would be wise to construct a governing system , that empowered all elected officials , not just the winning party.
Where there is a will, there shall be a way, and right now there is a lack of will, mainly because the parties have to much control and it works for them. Isn’t it time “government” work for all?
How do we get the discussion on the table, when political parties do not want to face the fact "they " have been the problem? Political parties love to debate, argue and bitch..while appearing to be concerned they truly are not, if they were, they all would act on the science.

I have advocated for a "Revolution" in the past and even revolutions take time
to gain momentum.I do believe it is gaining, and even as soon as this year I
think we will see some interesting movements. The direction people will take
will be towards a "World Government" in my view and nationalism and
sovereignty will be a thing of the past.
When one thinks about it, this really has to be the direction we all take as
such things as trade and the environment are already there ahead of us and
we need to catch up if we want a say in what happens to our resources, our
world and our planet. For this kind of government, we will need a whole new
kind of "politician" and politics. Finally we may get politics OUT of
government!

If you are telling me that a one world government is the way to go, then Hitler would have been your leader of choice. Please tell me you against a one world government.
I like Canada to be “Canada” . Clean out the riff raff and being some humanity into politics. I do not need someone like George Bush in my face.

Good government is not a party government
Democracy can only exist from the ground up and within national, or similar boundaries, where people can make their own decisions and not pushed around by some phoney treaties, called "trade agreements" and by an invisible set of bureaucrats, as it is happening already under the EU.
As far Baird is concerned, he's been exposed to the wealth creating sermons of neoclassical economists, especially by his brainwashed and damaged boss. That's all.
What he is doing is part of the economics courses of all our universities and called "economic efficiency", that overrules every ecological, or physical law and human right.
Wealth can not be created, only taken from other sectors, the environment, or the future.
And that's what they are doing, legalized by the pseudo scriptures of neoclassical market economics.
Ed Deak.
For those addicted to power and profit, who are 'winning' at the expense of all life, global warming is simply business as usual. Endless grotwth, regardless how well it is managed, is an ecological impossibility on a finite planet. For men like Baird, Harper and his ilk, the world itself can end, but not profit.
complex or one could say a "World Government", no?
The revolution I see coming will be the people of the world finally standing up
together to take back the planet and in so doing will have to cooperate in the
running of the world. This transition will not be easy, but a world governed
by the people rather than big business will be more to my liking.
The "New World Order" is not the same as a World Government, A world
government in my mind will be a common interest in staying alive on a
depleted planet and kicking big business into its proper place in the world.
People will come to see that we are all one and that we need each other more
than we need nationalism. I'm 4Canada only in as much as I used to believe
that Canada had some decent values and acted with a moral compass. Today
I no longer believe that. It's all myth. Today I want all peoples in the world to
have their freedoms and their human rights which include food, shelter and a
means to support themselves.
People should be allowed to live anywhere they like on the planet without
borders and big business run governments stopping us from doing that.
And, just so you understand me better, I am always open to changing what I
think and feel about anything at any time. I don't believe I have the answers
for everyone, just the ones I need at any given time.

I believe that you fix the small problems first, working from the bottom up. Here we are in Canada, a nation with all of the resources required to sustain life and we are letting other countries use these resources to control life.
Look at the great Western Provinces, they were once, considered to be at the very bottom of the food chain, as were our costal provinces, these province feed Canada. Now, look at them, farmers in Western Canada are not able to feed their own cattle.
We are losing the battle , because we have lost control over our “government” . Taxpayers, voters have been brainwashed to believe, that the only people who should be running this great nation are white collar professionals. To date this has proven out not to be true, we are in a mess, thanks to these schemers , they have taken our trust, our taxes laws and abused both.
Maybe we should start by doing away with the trade barriers in Canada, opening up the boarders from coast to coast to coast , in others words lets get rid of all Inter-Provincial Trade Barriers. It is time we done away with regionalizing and marginalizing Canada. Here in Atlantic Canada, the Atlantic Institute of Marketing Studies, would like to regionalize the Atlantic Provinces and call the Atlantica.
Bad idea, this would them make it much easier for those business person who sit on the Board of Directors to take control, this would not be healthy for Canada.
I have repeated this many times over, political parties have been high-jacked by the business community, all you need do is look at the structure, who sits where and who pulls the strings. One very good example of this would be what happened to David Orchard, he was lied to, by those very white collar lawyers who what control.
If political parties are to be, then they must be stripped of those powers which they use to feed their own, it is time we took back our government and our country. Stop supporting these politicians who are connected to the very business communities, who are raping this country of her resources and abusing the people.

Good government is not a party government
That's the key and the first step to any solution, because that is the beginning, cause and root of all human and ecological problems all over the world.
Ed Deak.
It is a shame, we are told that universities are where we will find “free thinkers“, this is what we are led to believe, when in fact this is not the truth. Political science professors, are part of the problem, they teach the party line and refuse to explore new governing possibilities.
When you have, think tanks like AIMS , The Fraser Institute or the CD Howe Institute , pumping their propaganda into universities and the media, taking into consideration the population is to busy working to stay alive, Canada suffers. I still say that our problems all starts with the political parties, pushing for their power and control.
---
Good government is not a party government
I agree that economics as currently taught is a part of the problem. Centralization is another part, it is easy to buy off some rotten politicians but it is impossible to buy off the whole population. It is possible to hoodwink enough of the population to bring about the election of marginal people who have no interest in helping the people who voted for them.
The only way that a world government would be helpful is if the people of the world drafted and voted on the legislation and then passed it to the civil service for implimentation. Government of all the people, by the people and for the people. No centralized ruling caste in charge of anything!

"It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities."

we will find “free thinkers“
Not only are students not permitted to be "free thinkers",
they are charged an arm and a leg for the benefit of
being brainwashed. Of course, your parents beat into
your head from the day you are born that you will not
amount to anything without an education. Whatever...
Education begins at home. If you cannot educate your
child as to the few realities and the many myths in this
world, then you are doing a major disservice to him or
her. Just throwing them into a University and expecting
the so called "Educational Professionals" to look out for
your child's best interests is downright ignorant and
naive.
As for this Baird character and his other buddies in
Ottawa, these people don't even give a damn about
cleaning up the planet for their own children,
grandchildren, great granchildren, etc. You think they
give two squats about the electorate? Enough said.
And finally, I saw a snippet of Justin Trudeau's speech
over there at the Papineau riding. He sounded like one
of these old-time dinosaur politicians, evoking the old
cliches like this is your Canada, Canada is the winner
tonight, bla, bla, bla...
If Justin is serious about removing these old farts and
changing things, he is going to have to do a better job
of communicating to his generation. Using the same
worn out BS rhetoric the political dinosaurs have been
using for a million years, ain't gonna cut it with those
Gen-Xers who have half a brain and actually use it from
time to time.
