Although U.S. officials said the military aid to Lebanon had been agreed to before the fighting broke out, the U.S. expedited its shipment.
A Pentagon official said Thursday that the United States would send ammunition and other equipment to the Lebanese army in a military airlift of eight planes.
As for humanitarian aid, a Red Cross convoy of vehicles was travelling from Jordan and was expected to arrive at the camp near the port city of Tripoli later Friday.
