Quotations From Our Man In America

May 26, to the Vermont Chamber of Commerce "I think that these two countries represent, at a time when the world is going through such violence and volatility, such a wonderful example to the world, two of the largest nations, two of the most wealthy nations, two of the most complex nations on the planet that we could have over 6,000 miles of border between us and have this wonderful, respectful relationship where at the end of the day we can call each other friend. I know it's important for you, but it's particularly important for us because we value you as a friend, we value you as a family member and we value you as a neighbour. And, for us in Canada, you're the only neighbour that we have." May 10, to the Canadian Association of New York "We all look alike and we talk alike. And you think, of course, you know something about us .... But I bet you didn't know that the Cy Young winner, Eric Gagné, is from Canada. That would probably surprise you. Or that the winner of the Masters, Mike Weir, is from Canada. That would surprise you. And I bet you really didn't know that the most valuable player in the National Basketball Association, Steve Nash, is a Canadian as well. So I doubt if you knew that Shania Twain was a Canadian or Céline Dion or Sarah McLachlan or Brian Adams or Rich Little or Alan Thicke or John Candy or Donald Sutherland or Peter Jennings or Donald Trump. I lied about Donald Trump, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention. But in fact, we're not sure we would necessarily want him. But the rest of them are all Canadians and we're all very proud that they are." April 26, at the opening of the Canadian consulate in Philadelphia "Although the relationship with Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, and the United States of America, has extraordinarily strong commercial roots, it is not money that defines a relationship. It is the millions of people who cross the border each year to visit family and friends on the other side, it is our shared sense of democracy, it is our shared commitment to world peace." April 15, to the Council of Forest Industries "None of us should forget the deep roots that exist in the two countries. We watch out for each other. And no matter what the trade fight may be at any particular moment, in the bigger fights we have shed blood together so many times in defence of the values and principles we share." http://www.canadianembassy.org http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_PrintFriendly&c=Article&cid=1119131409514&call_pageid=968332188854 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 20, 2005]

Sometimes he seems to stand up for us, other times he is a phony suckup, and quite inaccurate about us talking alike.

I agree 100%. With friends like him who needs enemies? A perfect corporate executive, state your point without offending anyone. Don’t upset the United States of America.

How come he doesn’t tell the truth that it was the first Bush Press Sectary that started the so called Canadian terrorist connection not a urban legend. I know it is true because I watched him on CNN say it.

Always be tolerant with those who disagree with you. After all, they have a perfect right to their ridiculous opinions-
