Right on! now there's no need to absorb all the American people and create new provinces - we should all be a bit more internationalist anyway.

I seriously doubt that Harper & co. would ever consider a system like that in the EU, or that the USA would agree to something like that. The EU has minimum environmental, social, human rights and labour standards. There's also part of their agreement that makes it possible for one of the smaller, weaker countries to screw over the whole Community, as Denmark did in the early 1990s. What the Conservative Party is putting forward is just more of the same old selling-out, being packaged & sold as "enhancing" our "free trade" deal with them. Who would disagree with that slogan? Nobody, and that's the whole idea.

NAFTA has minimum minimum environmental, social and labour standards. EU modified structure not EU clone in substance.

They're called the side agreements. I never said they had teeth or were comprehensive. That was my point. We may get an EU LIKE arragement, but it sure as hell won't be as progressive as the EU.

With a power as dominant as the US, there is no EU style arrangement.
