    Lisa Cook a Private Citizen? Lets see, Lisa posted her message attacking Arlo Looking Cloud at Monday, January 31 2005 @ 11:58 AM MST. This must mean Lisa Cook has resigned her position as an Associate Judge for the Oglala Sioux Tribe, assigned to the Kyle, SD Court House because the Oglala Sioux Tribal Code states the work day for judges is 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, and 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm (O.S.T. Code, Chapter 17, Part III, D, Section 1, 9. (page 323, 324)) and I am pretty sure playing in the Internet during the work day part of the duties of an Oglala Sioux Tribal Court Judge, especially given the pathetic backlog of cases in the OST court system.<br />

    Very good, Charles. And the question is, why and how did Lisa become an expert on the murder of Anna Mae? Is she good friends with Bob Ecoffey? Did she adopt Kamook as her sister? Did Ecoffey kill those 2 FBI agents in order to send off the only real AIM leader, Leonard Peltier? The gun used to kill these agents is also the gun used to kill Jeanette Bissonette. Isn't that interesting. Can you connect the dots?

    well actually, charles, i submitted this link to the website vivelecanada.ca on sunday, january 30 on my private time and was given a page that said that it was under review by the editors who would review it prior to posting. the editors then posted it on monday, january 31, after review and approval.

    you might also note, as may other readers if they're at all interested in this banal exchange, that other submitters' posts contain a link supplied by vivelecanada.ca that says "post a comment". mine does not. it appears to me, then, that the editors of vivelecanada.ca make choices about how and when things are posted, and to whom someone can post a reply.

    the link supplied regarding the interview with denise pictou is, in fact, posted by me as a private citizen intended to present a knowledgeable summary of the facts and testimony in the case from the family's perspective. family members have personal knowledge regarding the case as they have assisted with the investigation, have attended all proceedings in the case, and are first hand participants with personal knowledge and communications with others involved. it is an appropriate post fill out the information and discussion regarding the case. no matter how you and/or janis may twist it, it cannot be reasonably construed to indicate some sort of involvement on my part as a tribal judge, as a "sister" to kamook, or any other relation to the investigators or witnesses in the case. it is, plain and simple, a post from a private citizen who is interested cntributing to the dialogue from the victim's and family's point of view. you can't make it any more or less that what it simply is.

    Judge Cook;
    I am not writing this insultingly. I have considerable concerns with your banter concerning Ms. Schmidt's case and your posts about Anna Mae, Arlo and others because you are a judge, and in the case of Ms. Schmidt you are the judge.

    The foregoing is a problem because when you become a judge you lose your personal side. As such a judge's public comments carry the weight and/or authority of a judge, in your instance, a judge in and for the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The foregoing includes anything said in public, including letters to the editor, and posts to various Internet sites, be they about movies, cases, or politics. Like it or not, this is ethical reality.

    As kindly as I can say it, before you make any posts to the Internet, in any forum, I suggest you read the Oglala Sioux Code, in particular Chapter 1, Section 2.7, esq (Judicial Code of Ethics (page 39+)), and the ABA's Judicial Cannon, the foregoing are minimum standards for behavior.

    Mr. Yow,

    That time you see in the story header is when the story was moved from the story queue to the actual website. It has nothing to do with when the story was submitted.

    I am able to chage that date and time at whim.

    Thank you, Charles, for taking a strong stand on my behalf. Sorry for the long delay in making a response. I suppose I could say that things happen for a reason, and find myself innundated with calls from Lakotas looking for help with their judicial injustices, and finding absolutely no where to turn, they have been calling me because of my stories in the local paper. I find that I am their voice. I just received a letter from Arlo Looking Cloud, who has been so all alone, so isolated from any semblance of justice, he hadn't even seen one of the stories I wrote for him, so I sent him a copy of everything I wrote. His response was "your kili stories, wopila". Nothing shines brighter in the prison cell of the innocent condemned than the truth. He also said, "I never thought I would see the day when I would actually read the truth about myself."
    I have also heard from Leavenworth where Leonard Peltier is incarcerated. He is promoting subscriptions to the Black Hills Peoples News, the local paper on the Pine Ridge Reservation that runs my stories. It's the #1 paper among the over 200 Native Americans there. All in all, that is who I am writing for.

    We have a nasty hangover from the 70's that exists on the Reservation today. Lakotas are being rounded up by BIA Tribal Police (training according to Bob Ecoffey's plan), accused of a crime, FBI are called in, and suddenly the Lakota male is sitting in Pennington County Jail awaiting sentencing to a Federal prison. Most of innocent of the charges. Some like Arlo, are even being framed up for crimes committed by the Police. And the Tribal Court is very much a part of this insideous new way to eliminate Native Americans--with laws through the criminal justice system, a plan Bob help devise, and people like Lisa Cook applaud and use to eliminate people they don't like.

    By the way, I think the editors of Vive bend over backwards to be fair to everyone. This isn't Tribal Court where you can make decisions without hearings, sentence people to 1 to 2 years jail sentences with huge fines, no questions asked.

    Lately, Charles has had a number of stories on Tribal Codes and justice in the paper which shed a lot of light on the system.
