Canada's 'Third Way'

Posted on Monday, July 23 at 12:59 by jensonj
Yet his speech on the topic, delivered in Peru, was thoughtful and realistic. "While most nations are turning toward economic reform and political openness, too often some in the hemisphere are led to believe that their only choices are ... to return to the syndrome of economic nationalism, political authoritarianism and class warfare, or to become 'just like the United States.' This is, of course, utter nonsense. Canada's very existence demonstrates that the choice is a false one," the prime minister said. Harper argued that while Canada shares U.S. values as an "open, free and democratic society," it is us, not the Americans, who enjoy the G-8's strongest economy. We have a different concept of the social safety net than they do, and a different culture. The prime minister was describing what's been called the "Third Way" by leaders such as former British prime minster Tony Blair. We don't like dictatorships or economic repression, but that doesn't mean we're following the American path either. We use freedom and democracy to strengthen our independence from the U.S. Canada has some credibility in claiming "Third Way" status. http://www.thewhig.com/webapp/sitepages/printable.asp?paper=www.thewhig.com&contentid=619977&annewspapername=The+Kingston+Whig%2DStandard

Thanks for posting this jensonj! Well, there it is, straight from the horse’s mouth "Third Way Communitarianism" is THEIR driving ideology to OUR future… The third way nut jobs are getting bold in their declarations. NO...the real false choice is the so-called "Third Way" or communitarianism, nice try though. You can fool some of the people some of the time but, we are on to you. Painting the U.S. as the last hold out to a unified communitarian "Third Way" paradise world is ridiculus and President Bush(the bad cop) is most certainly third way oriented, why else would he be trashing the Constitution and Bill of Rights with his signing statements and executive orders, because freedom, independence and isolationism are his goals? Come on. "We use freedom and democracy to strengthen our independence from the U.S." LOL, what a joke. Remember SPP/NAU/NAFTA these all stregthen are independence from the U.S. right?

All Conservative supported U.S. programs and agenda's which are totally anti Canadian and non level playing fields. He maybe saying one thing to South America but he is doing something totally different with the U.S.A. PM Harper just maybe opening the back door for the U.S. in South America where they are not trusted very much or maybe he is flip flopping? I truly doubt that Harper is interested in protecting Canadian interests militarily, economically and sovereignty wise. I have never seen a more anti Canadian Canadian in my life.

I remember during the election, when Harper couldn't answer the simple question; "Do you love Canada?".
