The main reason why Messrs. Chavez and Castro wouldn't fit in at Davos is not that they are left, but that they are so old left. Davos has become the epicentre of the cuddly but ultimately subversive new-left concepts of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
The notion that a gathering of corporate executives should embrace leftist concepts is hardly contradictory or novel. From Friedrich Engels through to George Soros, some of the most rabid of anti-capitalists have been "businessmen."
