U.S. Legislator: Bush Wants A N. American Union

"I know this is dramatic, or maybe somebody would say overly dramatic. But I'm telling you that everything I see leads me to believe that this whole idea of the North American union, it's not something that's just written about by right-wing fringe kooks," said Tancredo, who is considering a run at the presidency. "It is something in the head of the president of the United States, the president of Mexico, I think the prime minister of Canada buys into it . . ." Tancredo followed up with an interview on the conservative Fox News network, where he said the borders will lose all their significance, serving merely as "speed bumps" in the flow of goods, services and people. In October, Tancredo demanded the United States suspend work on the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) signed last year by Canada, Mexico and The United States until Congress examines its goals and agreements, which include standardizing regulations and dismantling other barriers to trade. The deal to collaborate on a wide range of trade and security issues is part of a larger plot to merge the countries in a European Union-like arrangement using a common currency, he said, with no oversight from legislators. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2006/11/21/pf-2433311.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on November 22, 2006]

See my comment Right against Right on the irony of the Republicans being against something that the Right in Canada supports. <a href="http://plawiuk.blogspot.com/2006/11/right-against-right.html">http://plawiuk.blogspot.com/2006/11/right-against-right.html</a>

Hopefully the right wing in America can put an end to this continental integration garbage. I can't believe I'd ever be looking to right wing American for some hope.

From the article: "In October, Tancredo demanded the United States suspend work on the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) signed last year by Canada, Mexico and The United States until Congress examines its goals and agreements, which include standardizing regulations and dismantling other barriers to trade."

"standardizing regulations" makes me wonder which countries standards we are using with regards to our food?

On "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" last week there was a skit showing a couple shopping for groceries, one of them goes into a cooler and brings out carrot juice asking if the other wants to buy some botulism and further down the isle one goes to the lettuce saying they need some salmonella and finally they both get excited over the new product - meat with a syringe in it!

Hillarious for a skit but not so funny when I still can't buy spinach in the grocery store since the first recall of USAmerican spinach.
