Asmahan Mansour, 11, has worn the hijab since she was nine. Delic said it's the first time he has heard of a female soccer player in Canada being denied organized play because of her hijab. --- Read more about the Sun's recent racism and tolerence series at http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2007/01/19/3407237-sun.html http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2007/02/26/3668018-sun.html

We have our own politician that won't allow a chador to be worn in his presence and yet we are being told are troops are bing deployed in Afghanistan to allow women to make their own choice. We thump are chests calling freedom in Afghanistan while calling others "Rag head" in our own country. The coach had done what should be considered the norm rather then making news. The offical banning the player, should b4e required to go to Afghanistan and support the troops better then a bumper sticker.

Now I wonder what would happen if there were a girls' soccer tournament in a muslim country. Would western girls be allowed to play bareheaded there? I guess not.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. The Board of FIFA is now getting involved in its meeting in Manchester next week.

Canadian social norms should be exactly that: developed in Canada to benefit Canadians.

Under NO circumstances should Canada be guided by the social conventions of other countries, especially those that do not have similar values as Canada.

A tit-for-tat response is childish and not in the best interest of Canadians: lowering one's standards just because Joe-down-the-street does it will not improve any society.

Especially not if Canada is to be a shining beacon guiding the path to better relations and understanding. I think these are Canadian goals.

I may be completely wrong here in that there is a hidden agenda the aim of which is to have us at each other's throat. Why? Because a populace in turmoil is easily manipulated and led down the proverbial garden path. And that is happening now with the US government as head cheerleader leading us into the abyss.

Don't get me wrong. I would be absolutely the last person to blame any outsider for Canada's ills. The blame must rest with Canadians' complacency in accepting the status-quo. But, there is a shining light at the end of the tunnel: The federal minority government. A good start because it keeps the political parties busy and somewhat impedes the ability, to a small extend, to pass laws that are in fact anti-Canadian.

Next: A minority provincial government in Ontario. We should be so fortunate!
