Had the SRC been a truly independent public corporation, it should have uncovered the sponsorship scam. Normand Lester in fact uncovered the first Heritage Canada screw-ups but was given the gag-order.

The CBC/SRC is a corporation wholely independent from government except for funding. You should get your facts straight.

    Except for funding. Hmmmm...
And so was the BBC. Have you ever heard of the Heritage moments on the SRC side? I believe there are many cases where the CBC was gag ordered. Its reporters do quickly learn what topics not to touch if they want to get their contracts renewed.
BTW if the SRC had done its job of a watchdog on the sponsorhip scam, these people would not have scammed. For heaven's sake, we are talking about media press release sent out by these scammers. Any investigative reporter can smell scum. Some have at la SRC and no longer work for the SRC.
The scammers obviously felt that the field was wide opened. A public broadcaster cannot act as a watchdog if its financing is subjet to political interference. See american PBS too and how the financing strings are working. This is where all this NGO medias are now operating: they do not have this financing leash on them anymore.
Very similar interferences related with financing have made the board of directors a useless tool to safeguard the interests of the shareholders or public.
---
"We are all in this together somehow, some more than others somehow"
