I can\'t believe the Asper Empire actually allowed this nugget in their news system.

This is a good day. Not too much was said, but it is exposure to an audience we have trouble getting information out to.

At the very least, the name of the Canadian Action Party was introduced to many who probably have never heard of it.

Good stuff, we still need a lot more.

Yah - only three months after the fact do they mention something. Yet the Asper papers are filled daily with information on the conservative party.

The thing that bugs me is that Layton appears not to be interested in giving an inch, does he want the support or not? It keeps sounding like \'well if you want to join the NDP come on over, but we\'re the same old party\'. I just wish he would consider that even with a new leader, many Canadians don\'t favor the NDP, a name change and a fresh new approach might make the difference. Again I think Mr. Hellyer has (at least publicly)admitted to the complete sovereignty of Canada, he says what I want to hear, and I don\'t hear all that from Jack. Yet!

Like I said before, I definitely support a \'united left\' as I like to call it. But I`m suspicious of Layton. I`m not too sure that a new name including the word \'progressive\' is a good idea, given that it is so connected to that former party that Brian Mulroney once used as his vehicle to try and destroy Canada! Just a suggestion- Maybe it`s not a good one, I don`t know, but we could call the new party the CCF- Co-operative CANADIAN federation!

Hellyer? Hellyer? Nope. That name doesn't ring a bell. Pavlov! Now that name rings a bell!<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." Plato

I\'m surprised also that CanWest would publish this. I wonder how or why this Bill Curry went along with publishing this, without making any cheap remarks towards NDP or Paul Hellyer.

Could it be they see this as a negative publicity?

Something new I learnt from this article is the amount of support that CAP got. 27, 103 votes. That\'s allot of votes that the NDP sure can use, but of course not the NDP as its present form.

What suprises you more, that they published it without bias, or that that a 'corporate media' outlet can be unbaised? I'm not surprised.<p> I've always found Canwest to be right leaning, but unbiased. Unlike the CBC.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." Plato

    Hi Dave

I am afraid that I cannot agree with you totally on this one. First off I think that we could indeed use progressive in our new name if chosen by the membership. Progressivism is a movement in itself. Instead of using Brian Mulroney as an example why don\'t we use John Diefenbacker. He was a definite progressive who captured the imagination of thousands of Canadians. I believe that we can do it again with the right leader. Brian Mulroney is a conservative not a progressive conservative and that is why he was so at home with pushing for the amalgamation of the two parties.

Secondly, calling ourselves the Co operative Commonwealth Federation is not a good idea. I can imagine some history buff going back and pulling up the manifesto which formed the Federation. They will call us communists and say that we will use force to get what we want if required. I don\'t think it would be a good idea.

I think that a possible name could be The Progressive Canada (or Canadian) Party. I think that it would resinate with progressives in the NDP, CAP, David Orchard and his supporters, disenchanted liberals, Green party members etc.

I do believe that we need to get on with this amalgamation and start making the changes necessary to get this arrangement finished. The NDP needs to change in order to capture new voters. Whether we or the NDP believe it or not the amount of public support we need to form a government is much more than what the NDP can deliver. The proof is already out their, together we can do much better.

Now that we have this little bit of publicity lets get the phone calls, the e-mails and letters to Paul, Jack and David to get them on line with the wishes of the electorate.

Everyone partaking in these discussions should be able to negotiate a deal so that everyone can get what is desired in forming this new party. That\'s if everyone indeed believes that this is required to save Canada and to provide this country with a truly responsible Government.

This is true. But just think if we could make this new party work. We would have enough interested people to run Candidates in all ridings and be able to attack some big names from the provincial and local communities.

I still believe strongly that if the merge dont\' happen, the NDP is really the only option to get the lesser of the evils in power.

    Time will tell.

give it a rest.....let Layton make a move, then talk.

That comment seems like someone had a nerve hit ?

I\'m sick of the talk....no leaders, including Layton, will change very much. Paul Hellyer is 1000 years old -nobody would elect him, unfortunately. The Greens are too libertarian.

    We need younger politicians.
