Problem Isn't Missiles - It's Bush

Posted on Sunday, February 27 at 12:42 by 4Canada
Toronto Star, Feb. 26, 2005 THOMAS WALKOM Prime Minister Paul Martin has done the right thing. By refusing to sign on politically to George W. Bush's missile defence scheme, he has opened himself up to charges of flip-floppery. But this time, the flip-flop has a point. The point is not just that most Canadians don't want to join missile defence (although for a minority government, that should be reason enough). Nor is it the fact that, so far, the Americans haven't been able to make it work. The real point of refusing to join missile defence is to do exactly that which so irritates Bush: It is to distance Canada politically from the current U.S. administration. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1109373906186&call_pageid=970599109774&col=Columnist969907626796

"It is to distance Canada politically from the current U.S. administration."

Which may I add is exactly what a majority of Canadians want as well.

No, the problem is us. Canadians do not recognize that we derive many benefits as the de facto principal colony of the American empire. We do not have our own economy, nor do we even have our own cultural identity: the seamless assimilation of showbiz personalities from Shania Twain to Jim Carrey is testimony to that.

Yet, we naively think that sewing a maple leaf on our backpack both makes us different, and at the same time inoculates us from a dangerous world.

How come we are increasing number in military? Apparently for little peacekeeping jobs that have absolutely no benefit to Canada. At the same time we don't want to participate in defending Canada. America is now responsibile for north america. And some people on this site are worried about sovereignty. I have a feeling Canada could not play these games if America was not behind us. Canada is a nice enough place to live but seems some strange. I think we would not be so strange if we lived beside North Korea, China or some arab country. The new Canada is so French; we hate our friends and suck up to our enemies.

Amen to that. Well put. I think there is a lot of nationalists lurking about here. Keep up the truisms, there is much work to be done as the Liberals have done much damage. Besides, George Bush is ten times the man that Paul Martin is. Mr. Dithers titled had to be earned.

what trash! another one of these American protects us dittoheads. where do you get that trash from anyways? Harper or Rush?

Canada does not need America beyond a trading partner and there many more of those out there. Bush and his government are hated soundly around the world. Canadians are no different - it has zero to do with being french - it has everything to do with respecting the rule of law and international order. We don't torture and kill, we don't start illegal wars and rig elections. Go walk around with an american flag wrapped around you in 3/4's of the world and you will be beaten for it. do the same in a Canadian flag and they will hug you. Get the difference there Rush?

what a lark - for what?

    Starting illegal wars - sure
    presiding over torture - sure
    ruining an economy - sure
    running massive shortfalls - sure
being hated around the world - sure
    stealing elections - sure
pandering to rightwing lunatics - sure
    killing the environment - sure
hating the working man - sure
    curbing freedoms - sure

Wow - what a winner you follow!

History will remember bush as the criminal he is and all you no-minds that support him will be remembered as we remember the stupid germans who followed hitler.

    Grow a brain.

Richard Gwynn of the Toronto Star writes in an editorial that Mr. Bush may prove to be right yet. Carry the fight to the enemy and promote democracy wherever one can. A German paper has the same refrain. Canadians may very well have to rethink position shortly. Quite an admission from the Star you must agree.
An election in an arab country is truly an amazing feat. The criminals at some point will be defeated. Leaders have always been crucified; Churchill, Lincoln to name just two. They proved to be right but had little support and much animosity at the time. Leaders lead and accept the criticism. We thought Chretien was a poor leader, well, this guy now.........

It is pretty hard to have our own identity when what little culture Canada does present to the world is quickly swallowed up by overpowering American interests. As for Bush being a bigger man, yeah. I can't even respond to such an ignorant statement. Take a look around at the reality of the Bush regime, easy to call someone a terrorist cuz it takes one to know one.

Thomas Walkom writes such childish drivel it's surprising that he manages to get paid for it. But of course he's just pandering to the snivelling socialists that read the trash of the Toronto Star.

If the Star chamber types turned their collective cynicism towards their own Liberal Party and the way it has eviscerated the institutions that built this country, they might be deserving of a modicum of respect, but they're way too political for that - it's all for the Party in their books.

Bush has a spine, and that's just too much for Canada's snivelling classes. They want the soft malleable pudding of a Paul Martin.

Another dittohead - elections were rigged in Iraq, and the elections that were held in Iran years ago only made America overthrow the democratically elected government and install the evil Shah.

Learn some history. there will only be a theocracy in iraq just like there is in Iran now.

Bush has a spine - another brownshirt response!

Where was his spine during Vietnam?

Bloody hell - where do you guys come from and where do you learn that shit? Really now - you just make yourselves look like fools when you drop that bullshit. Go to freedominion - they get off on that type of talk for they don't care about reality and history and most of all avoid facts at all costs - sort of like you.

    Snivelling socialists are sooooo touchy!

Don't worry they will alter history in the classroom text books and brainwash another generation.
You can't fault them for what is being force-fed to them in the classroms and media.
