What you can do: Rules that truly curb media concentration in Canada are long overdue. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) - the body that regulates broadcast and telecommunications systems - is holding a hearing in Gatineau this coming September on how to ensure a diversity of voices in our media. The deadline for submissions is July 18, 2007. These hearings could in the long run lead to a more concentrated media and a relaxation of the foreign ownership rules leaving our media susceptible to take-over by even bigger U.S. Media Conglomerates.
The airwaves belong to the public, and the CRTC needs to hear from you. Click here
(http://democraticmedia.ca/act) to let the CRTC know that media diversity matters to you.
Spread the word: Unless citizens speak out, the debate will continue to be dominated by large media corporations. Please forward this message to encourage others to participate in this crucial campaign. Tell your family and friends about this important campaign.
Don't forget to tell the CRTC to STOP THE BIG MEDIA TAKEOVER!: http://democraticmedia.ca/act
If you are not a Canadian citizen or resident, please do not send a message to the CRTC; visit http://democraticmedia.ca to find out about how you can support media diversity in Canada.

For the past 3 years, most of my working hours have been taken up by <br />
tracking the significance of the police raid (28 Dec. '03) on the B.C. <br />
Legislature.<br />
<br />
At the time, after a brief flurry of reporting, the CanWest empire went <br />
virtually silent on the topic. As the silence continued, a few people (me <br />
included) thought we'd better do something about that ourselves. <br />
<br />
So three of us started up web-sites. One (because of a death in the <br />
family) has gone silent. One (House of Infamy) has taken a quieter, <br />
wittier, "wait-and-see" approach. And there's mine, The Legislature <br />
Raids, still rolling along 14 months and 317 stories later. <br />
<br />
I mention this today because another startling event has occurred and <br />
another incredible media silence is happening around another topic of <br />
great significance in Canadian political life. <br />
<br />
Anyone interested in how extremism can quietly enter the corridors of <br />
power, should watch for a repeat of the CBC documentary by Terry <br />
Milewsky: "Political Culture."<br />
<br />
If you can't find any reports, drop in at The Legislature Raids, <br />
<a href="http://bctrialofbasi-virk.blogspot.com/">http://bctrialofbasi-virk.blogspot.com/</a><br />
<br />
But I can tell you this: the day after some eye-popping facts were <br />
broadcast on CBC Newsworld's National News last evening (28 June '07), <br />
there's not a word about it in any CanWest newspaper that I've checked.<br />
<br />
And that's no way to keep the public informed of their democratic rights, <br />
dangers, successes, and duties. <br />
<br />
. <br />
<br />
<br />
So too are those politicians that manage to become "elected" despite having no significant popular support in the first place.
I thought the CBC investigation of Sikh extremism and political pandering was important and brave. It takes courage and character to speak up against anger, hate and incoherence.
It deserves to be noted whenever and wherever it occurs. Eventually we may be fortunate enough to find it happening more, rather than less, often.
Thank you BCMary.
Once again there are several levels imbedded within the message, one being the second paragraph. Your courage has been duly noted by me Mary and you know that.<br />
It is the first paragraph that raises concern! Civil discussion has no room for pettiness the pettiness of attacking a person with less abilities than ones self in the constant way you have done about spelling and punctuation. <br />
Your blather about those with nothing to say is an example of one who sees themselves as superior and must go to any length to insult.<br />
I have been advised that perhaps it is a time out for the both of us and have upped the ante on the one too. I have suggested the we make public apologies to each other or face permanent banishment. I have watched you junk-yard dog like viciously attack others in the same manner <br />
And acts such as those belie a deeper psychotic disturbance <br />
Stop IT!! And as if that isn’t bad enough You have marshaled forces and fopund others who buy into your pettiness, eh rural?<br />
So Mary-Mary be quite clear I have and will now again congratulate you on the efforts o visa vi ther Virk Basi thing <br />
Good on you!!!!<br />
But you insulting bullshit is quite separate and needs to be brought to you attention, and drop the whinny “poor me” crap as well, nobody sound of mind is buying it!<br />

<br />
Without prejudice<br />
Definition<br />
The basic meaning is 'without loss of any rights'. It is a term used when two parties are in dispute, and one makes a settlement offer to the other. It puts 'without prejudice' on its offer to make it clear that the settlement offer should not be construed as a waiver of rights. Importantly, communication marked 'without prejudice' cannot be used in evidence in court proceedings if the attempts at settlement fail and the dispute comes to court. <br />

I just don't have enough whisky to be moderating the two of you every day.
Dio, Mary, ignore each other, please!

The preceding comment deals with mature subject matter, however immaturely presented. Viewer discretion is advised.
I hardly ever ignore personal appeals

say only those with excellent spelling or typing skills can post here; there are
no IQ tests that must be passd; no specific bias or race, gender, religion that
is permitted or not permitted. Everybody is welcome to voice their opinion in
whatever way they can do it best, if people don't appreciate another's point of
view or their language they can vote the comment down.
The issues are not about our writing skills, as anyone could be critiqued for
that at any time, none of us are perfect, but we all have something to say, we
all have a piece of the puzzle and should be encouraged to share it. The more
civil the post, the better the conversation, debate etc. but the poster can
tailor their post to the results they get....vive doesn't show preference for well
written posts...the readers may....but not the moderators

comments in the forum...very nice! This should at least allow others to stop
thinking they need to come to anyone's rescue, as it always takes two to do
combat! thanks

This may come as a big surprise.
BC Mary has written only one comment on this thread and it is entirely
concerned with the media in general, and in particular the handling of
the Sikh Separatist Movement story which aired on CBC Newsworld.
One comment, OK? About the media.
