Brain Damaged

'The whole passport design is totally brain-damaged,' Grunwald told wired.com. 'From my point of view all of these RFID passports are a huge waste of money. They're not increasing security at all.' http://www.vnunet.com/computing/news/2161836/kacers-crack-biometric [Editor's note: 4Canada also submitted this link: DAN GOODIN Associated Press Las Vegas — Electronic passports being introduced in the U.S. and other countries have a major vulnerability that could allow criminals to clone embedded secret code and enter countries illegally, an expert warned. A demonstration by German computer security expert Lukas Grunwald showed how personal information stored on the documents could be copied and transferred to another device. It appeared to contradict assurances by officials in government and private industry that the electronic information stored in passports could not be duplicated. “If there is an automatic inspection system, I can use this card to enter any country,” Mr. Grunwald said, holding up a computer chip containing electronic information he had copied from his German passport. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060806.welecpass0806/BNStory/Technology/ [DrC] [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 8, 2006]

Which country cares about the security of its citizens? As long as they can keep track of the masses, the government will gladly sacrifice their people's security/privacy.

If you expect the government to uphold your rights, you got another thing coming...

So we'll know if the Canadian government goes ahead with these types of passports with the knowledge that they are not secure, that security has nothing to do with them implementing them. We'll know who's security they are most concerned with and it will be spelled LOBBYIST.

For every "action", there is an equal and opposite "reaction". It is a philosophy (of sorts) that will ensure the eventual failure all things dictatorial, although it will get very messy in the meantime, and will not necessarily guarantee the "cure" will be any less pleasant than the "illness".

The more electronic we go, the easier it will become, not only to ferret out information, but to block said information. One true indicator of our governments' intentions will be legislation making it illegal to: a] not carry this ID, and to: b]impede access to this ID.

Brilliant, let’s market the damn thing!

That is actually a great idea. Also, a small transmitter of the right frequency could disrupt reception. I see a large black market developing here.

There is always a way to beat just about anything.
