MacKay Will Look Into Spying Reports

Posted on Wednesday, May 02 at 11:54 by 4Canada
Mr. MacKay said he will talk to Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day about the remarks by the CSIS director. “What I'm going to do is obviously speak directly with my colleague Stockwell Day when I return and find out more of the nature and detail of that particular testimony,” he said. As an opposition MP, Mr. MacKay charged that Canada has lost billions of dollars because of economic espionage. Prime Minister Stephen Harper, when he was opposition leader, said China has up to 1,000 spies operating in Canada. Last year, Mr. MacKay said he was very worried about Chinese industrial espionage in Canada. But yesterday he said he did not raise the issue in his four-hour meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Beijing on Monday. “I had no recent or specific examples of which to refer,” he said. “So that's why I do intend to find out more about it, delve into the detail when I return.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070501.wmackay0402/BNStory/National/home [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on May 3, 2007]

    From the article:

"Mr. MacKay said he will talk to Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day about the
remarks by the CSIS director. “What I'm going to do is obviously speak
directly with my colleague Stockwell Day when I return and find out more of
the nature and detail of that particular testimony,” he said.

As an opposition MP, Mr. MacKay charged that Canada has lost billions of
dollars because of economic espionage. Prime Minister Stephen Harper, when
he was opposition leader, said China has up to 1,000 spies operating in
    Canada."

Harper is abusing his power. He knows people will hear what he says
because of his position, so he just makes us crap, says it enough times, and
knows he'll have put a bug in enough people's ears to make it a "fact"?

Why doesn't MacKay just go to Steve and get the list of the "1,000 spies
    operating in Canada"?
