Every wave of new immigrants has faced the same discrimination and cultural protectionism as Muslim people from a range of non-white countries are facing today in Canada and the U.S. However, today, the most recent arrivals are faced with shockwaves impacting them from the G.W. Bush "war on terror" which is actually a "war of terror".
The Bush regime's war of terror does not really seem to have much of an impact outside of North America. Resistance is growing to America's adopted role as a violent and abusive force on the planet. Most of the war of terror appears to be impacting the American people and nurturing the passive aggressive impulses in that troubled society. It isn't likely, in my view, that this impact will spread far or deep inside Canada. For all our flaws it does seem to me we are sufficiently different from our cousins south of the 49th parallel that we have a good opportunity to use the current RCMP/CSIS case to show our differences.
