Belinda Stronach Defects To Liberals

Posted on Tuesday, May 17 at 08:59 by drcaleb
Last week, she said it would be unfortunate if the Liberal government fell before the 2005 budget was passed because it contained measures on municipal funding that were of great importance to her constituents in the Toronto-area riding of Newmarket-Aurora. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/05/17/stronach-liberals050517.html

Wow, and my MP just wrote to me yesterday, telling me that the Cons were a united party, and the only party with the integrity to govern and return the House to order blah blah

have her people decided that it isn't possible to be PM if she stayed with the conservatives?

What a shocker! There was a story in the Calgary Herald today that MPs from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia could face a huge voter backlash if they bring the lib government down before the resource agreement in the current budget is implemented. It may be that the libs can yet fend off the bloc/cons attack.

Miss Stronach says sticking with the Cons would give "separatists" the upper hand. What she doesn't understand is that NOTHING enflames and enrages Quebeckers more than to see ANYONE siding with the LIBERALS. If these bastards stay in office or get elected again, she can look forward to a revival of "separatist" sentiment of the likes this country has never seen. This is great for our cause, but I just thought I would highlight how out of touch with reality these politicians can be.

In no way is the Conservative Party united here in Atlantic Canada. Stronach was seen as the voice for the moderate/right center of the party. Her defection will be devastating since her stated reasons for leaving are identical to their concerns about the direction of the party and Harper's leadership.

    Belinda is not PM material!
She wants closer ties with the US.If she becomes PM she will not be allowed in the US as she has been divoreced.Remember ol Dubya said no visit for Chuck and his #2 wife.
Hey wait a minute maybe......maybe if she gets elected, gets snubbed, she won`t want to integrate with Dubya.
Could it be?Nah.Just Harper in drag.

She wants to be the PM. Her defection has more to do with political ambitions than with the welfare of the nation. I just hope that everyone will be able to see this.

Sameul, for once I agree with you.I hate how the Liberals can do what they want then election time they constantly talk like the are the party of "national unity."

I'm still trying to figure out if this is a good thing for the NDP though.Opinions anyone?

There is a website with over 15,000 names on it pressuring conservative MP's in Newfoundland to vote for the budget. They will suffer dearly if the deal is scuttled. Its a big issue and even the premier of NL is distancing himself from Harpo and the Conservative Circus.

A politician with ambition, gee I've never heard of that before... *yawn*

Yes, but we're going to need our own hottie to face off against President Hillary Clinton in 2007. But, hey, no contest: Canada rules, USA drools.

Smiley is no exception to that dino. He sided with the Libs. In fact, I think Québeckers are just about the only ones not siding with bribes and corruption. I hear Sask's Premier is now also on board. Bless you all ;-)

It's good to know that Newfoundland's citizens are putting pressure on their politicians! I hope it works!
