Palestinian Crisis Looms

Posted on Sunday, April 30 at 13:00 by 4Canada
In meetings with Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay, Opposition leader Bill Graham and the NDP's Jack Layton, she spoke of the financial and humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinians.

No friend of Hamas, she stressed the need to respect the democratic will of the Palestinians. She called on Canada to host an international conference to help revive the peace process.

I asked her how the Palestinians view the Harper government's decision to freeze funding.

"It was quite surprising, because Canada has not been seen as an adjunct to the U.S. policy."

Funding to the Hamas government was cut. We still fund NGO's and UN missions to Palestine.

Hamas = terrorists. We don't support them. Good. Stop whining. If the Palestinians want this to change, have Hamas recognize Israel and renounce violence. Pretty simple. If they don't, they don't get cash.

But don't worry, my poor bleeding hearts... Iran and the Saudi's will ride to the rescue! They've pledged to pick up the slack left behind by the US/Europeans/Canadians/etc...

Let's see if their Arab bretheren actually care about the Palestinians or if they only like to use them as an excuse to continue their ideology of hate. No money has arrived yet, so maybe it is clear what their agenda is after all.

Our government(s) are not interested in democracy, for palestinians or anyone else. The Palestinians elected someone other than who Bush favours, therefore it is an illegitimate government. Same as with Chavez - despite being elected democratically under the scrutiny of international observers SEVERAL TIMES, the Bush regime still call Chavez a commie dictator.

I'm still waiting for that "Darfur Crisis Looms" Haroon. Will you ever write one? Yeah, yeah we get it, we get it. Poor, weak and predominately Muslim and Arab Palestinians are being beaten up by the Zionists and their Western Christian allies. But don't you think the death of a many as 400,000 people is worthy of your attention even for just an article or two? How about the displacement of over 3 million people from their homes? This is quite an accomplishment for a government that has waged a war against its own people since 2003. Is this not worthy of commentary from you Haroon? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that most of the killing is being done by the government backed Janjaweed rebels: a rebel group composed of Arabs mostly of the Muslim faith. Nor, I'm certain, is your relative silence on the issue influenced by the fact that most of those dying in this contemporary genocide are Blacks and non-Muslim (mostly Christian).

About 700 protestors gathered Queen's Park yesterday (April 30, 2006) to bring attention to the genocide that is happening in Darfur. Even George Clooney is trying to bring attention to what the UN is calling the "world's worst humanitarian crisis." But what do we get from Haroon? Another article on how a Muslim people are being oppressed by Western bullies. If it’s not about the US in Iraq then it’s about Canada in Afghanistan. If it’s not about the Mohammed cartoons then it’s about the unfortunate and Islamaphobic driven death of Sharia Law in Ontario. At all other times it’s about the Palestinians or how Islam is a blessing to the people who embrace those (and the larger the numbers the better) who carry Islam's message of "peace" but nary a word about Darfur.

The linked Toronto Star article above is burried on page ten. It is accompanied by a photo of a sea of white faces who want to end the tragedies in Sudan. Below it is an article on Hindu/Islam relations (Islam is a religion of peace alright). A photo of a sea of Sikhs in orange turbans graces page one. About 50,000 of them paraded and disrupted the flow of traffic on Toronto's streets yesterday. Guess celebrating the Sikh colonization of Canada is more newsworthy than the death of 400,000 Sudanese blacks. In comparison there are about 300,000 Sikhs in Canada. It took them several decades to get this number that high. It only took the Sudanese government 3 years to kill 400,000. Sri Lanka has produced over 60,000 deaths in 25 years of civil war and exported over 200,000 “refugees” to Canada (almost half of the ex-pat Sri Lankan population) yet Canada bent over backwards to import more Sri Lankans and Tamils during the Tsunami disaster when the logical solution was to move them inland. Canadian action on Sudan so far has been a few words of disproval and some commitment to do something but talk is cheap. But then again how many Sudanese refugees are there in Canada? How many can afford the trek? I hope this helps people see that Canada’s immigration/refugee system is not apolitical. The Sudanese should do as others have done before them and abuse our lax immigration and refugee laws and cluster in areas so that they can swing votes in ridings. Then Ottawa will pay attention. There’s strength and political power in numbers.

Haroon Siddiqi is a heavily biased journalist whose articles are influenced by his Islamic brand of neo-colonialism. Nothing makes this man happier than to see the expansion of Islam throughout the world and especially in Canada. Most of his commentaries highlight crimes against Muslims but when Muslims are the criminals he is silent. And in the odd instance he does it is to explain how they are response to earlier crimes committed against them or they are just confused individuals acting in the name of some corrupted interpretation of the Koran. In the end they are still victims. The Arab League of Nations has commented on Darfur albeit hesitantly and after international pressure and criticism. Perhaps that’s what it will take to get Haroon to say something.

Haroon is the Canuck king of Islamic apology and moral relativism. He's the reason I will never spend another cent on the Star.

that we recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization, right? And we do not give money to terrorist outfits. We are still giving money to the Palestinians, just not to Hamas.

Do you suggest we give money to an organization we deem terrorists? Or are you suggesting Hamas, who in their charter state their goal of the destruction of Israel, are actually not a terrorist organization.

    Look forward to your response.

So then why is Israel funded poshly, and armed to the teeth even after defying UN resolution after resolution, as Palestinians are still being evicted off of their land? Seems to me Israel is more reluctant to recognize an independent Palestinian state. Yep, starve the Palestinians. That`ll make them less angry, won`t it. But you guys are not wrong on Sudan. But of course, Africans consistently get ignored by the morally superior 'west.' As long as people are being oppressed in the many different corners of the world, there will simply be no peace. As long as the political machine of greed keeps steamrolling along, we`ll be stuck with bloodshed, unfortunately. No justice, no peace.

Israel recognized the Palestinian state as part of the Oslo and Camp David accords. That allowed the PLO to become the PA and form the self government that exists today. Simon Peres cringed as he shook hands with Arafat, but he did it because the PLO (Fatah) accepted Israel's right to exist.

The settlers are being moved off "Palestinian" land and back into Israel. The only Palestinian "evictions" are taking place as the wall goes up. The wall that has reduced the number of suicide bombings more than tenfold.

    Dave:

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean to disparage Palestinian claims to a homeland. At the same time I do feel the Israelis have a claim as well. We all do including Canadians which is why I am vehemently opposed to multiculturalism and a mass influx of disparate people into the country who consistently have shown through voice and action that they have no intention of honouring Canadian culture and history. I do find it incredible how some, such as neo-colonialists like Haroon, can argue for the right of a homeland for others yet argue against this right for Canadians.

I am an impartial observer on the Palestinian/Israeli situation. I do not know enough of the history of the region to have an informed opinion. But my point in writing what I did is to shed light on Haroon’s motives and encourage people to read between the lines. Haroon, like many Arab and Muslim commentators, are quick to point out the beam in their brother’s eye yet fail to notice the beam in their eye (to speak Biblically). Genocide is being waged in Darfur by the hands of Arabs. Our government is in the process of discussing possible action in the Sudanese region. Around 700 protestors converged on the Ontario Legislature grounds (Queen’s Park) to protest the genocide and Haroon’s contribution is to write his nth article on how Palestinian rights are being violated. Palestinian rights violations are deserving of commentary but what appalls me is that Haroon has said very little on the situation in Darfur. Perhaps the current political mood will cause him to write something and if he does it will be interesting to read. But so far my impression of Haroon is the same for all Arabs and Muslims when it comes to Palestinian rights: it is a vehicle to attack Israel and to advance the cause of Islam into the only non-Muslim influenced state in the region. But that’s just my observation.

But it's OK to support corrupt and inept governments, which are terror enough to the people they govern? Hamas was VOTED in because the PEOPLE were tired of corruption, much the same way Harper was voted in.........
