Ban Music Thieves From Web, Says U2 Manager

"We must shame them into wanting to help us. Their snouts have been at our trough feeding free for too long," Mr McGuinness said at the Midem music industry conference in Cannes.

"For ISPs in general, the days of prevaricating over their responsibilities for helping protect music must end. The ISP lobbyists who say they should not have to 'police the internet' are living in the past - relying on outdated excuses from an earlier technological age."

His call follows a report last week which showed that while worldwide sales of digital music grew by 40 per cent last year, they were still not enough to offset a sharp fall in CD sales.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents record companies across the world, warned that the "crisis" in the music industry would deepen unless ISPs took action against the millions of people who illegally download music.

Many ISPs have been reluctant to police the illegal activities of their customers, preferring to rely on record labels to bring cases against them.

Brought to you by the letter 'U', the number '2' and a greedy bastard who's band has sucked since the late 90's.

Time for a CD burning party.

claim THEY are being ripped off?

So what songs did he write?

    What Nerve...

"...while worldwide sales of digital music grew by 40 per cent last year, they were still not enough to offset a sharp fall in CD sales."

    or similarly:

"...while worldwide sales of CDs grew by 40 per cent last year, they were still not enough to offset a sharp fall in vinyl and cassette sales."

    OK that makes more sense.

It seems that people are not purchasing digital music on a piece of plastic called a CD and the manager of U2 thinks saying "outdated excuses from an earlier technological age" is an argument to HIS side?

What other industry except the auto industry can completely miss a paradigm-shifting technology trend in their own industry and then decides it's the customer that must be up to something?

I am sure it's NOT the monolithic utterly colluded music industry that hasn't changed since the 1950s?

I hear people aren't listening to as much radio as they used to...but don't tell U2's manager or he will demand that troops force his 'customers' at gun point to listen more.

    Lamer...

This is U2, a band that moved it's head offices from Ireland (their home
country) to the Netherlands so they can pay less taxes. And then Bono
(limousine liberal, NWO Globalist in drag, NeoCon muppet, etc.) petitions the
Irish (and Canadian and American and anyone who will listen) Government to
do more to help the poor. A tad hypocritical?

This is U2, a band that charges anywhere from $50.00 to $200.00 for their
live gigs and a $40.00 membership to be able to purchase prime tickets,
which you cannot because the legalized ticket scalpers grab the best seats.

This is U2, a band who has a first come first serve policy at their concerts and
then fails to honor it when a bunch of ugly ducklings show up first. After all,
when you're an aging rock band, you have to make sure the front rows are
filled with the beautiful people for the cameras. Image is everything, ya know.

Oh yeah, let's get to the point. With regards to the fat guy's comments, it may
be a result of one of the following:

    1) He's run up a huge gambling debt and needs to settle up.

    2) He's pissed off that his band can't rip off consumers at $25.00 a pop for
CDs anymore. Aaah, the good ole days.

    3) He has no clue on how to build a successful online marketing model (such
as Radiohead did with their latest release).

    4) He is oblivious to fair use copyright law.

    5) He has a hearing problem and thinks that MP3s actually sound good and
    are worth something.

    6) His crappy overpriced U2 merchandise isn't selling well.

    7) Guinness Beer is in short supply in Holland.

    8) He detests the people who have made him a multi-millionaire.

    9) He is in bed with the corporatists (U2's label Universal) and would like to
join their fight to promote tyranny.

    10) His band can no longer put out an album which doesn't sound like their
    previous one.

Have a Beautiful Day, Paul, and don't worry, I still think you're just The
    Sweetest Thing.

I can't even listen to their dreary white bread Sunday School Catholic-lite homilies anymore...

Irish guys singing songs about Elvis and MLK and catechism, while other Irish artists got nothing.... and people bought that shit...man oh man

Prior to January 1, 2008, songwriters paid no tax on earnings from music
publishing in Ireland. Since the law was changed requiring artists to pay taxes,
you get an idea why U2 moved their operations to the Netherlands.

What is U2 you ask? A corporation, of course - complete with the same ethics
and morals of any other corporation.
