Time To Rethink Our Security Ties With The USA

Posted on Thursday, August 09 at 10:14 by Wayne Coady
Previously unreleased sections of the inquiry into the Syrian-Canadian's ordeal at the hands of Syrian torturers show that an officer of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service in Washington wrote his superiors about so-called "rendering" to third countries by the FBI and CIA. The CSIS officer reported that Arar's detention and subsequent handover was just such a case — where U.S. authorities could not legally hold a terrorist suspect or wanted them questioned "in a firm manner." Jack Hooper, deputy director of CSIS, stated in a memorandum dated Oct. 10, 2002: "I think the U.S. would like to get Arar to Jordan where they can have their way with him." That was two days after U.S. authorities deported Arar to Jordan, then on to Syria where he was tortured. The newly released documents also show that the RCMP was in contact with the CIA at the time. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/08/09/arar-report.html

"Canadians have lost control of their "government", to a corrupt political system"
In fact Canadians gave up control by non involvement it their political system. The control was not "lost" so miuch as it was given away. To assign blame to the system is foolish when it is the lack of participation by those who will not exercise their franchise.

"They can have their way with him" - CSIS.

WTF! Why are charges not filed! Why are people not in jail over this! They knew he would be tortured, and they let it happen with their blessing!

Why do the sheep not see what is right in front of their eyes! No wonder the government tried to supress this report. I wonder what the last 1500 words say.

When you take into consideration that exercising ones right to vote , within the present political system, those of us who can think outside the party box, never really had much to choose from.

Hopefully with the latest discussion around independent candidates and MP Bill Casey's wanting the election laws change, so all candidates are playing on a level playing field, when it comes to raising funds will get attention.

Those people who want to hang on and stay within the party box are more than welcome to, but people such as myself would like to see more independent candidates.

It is hardly democratic of any society to tell me that I must vote for the person the party picked, knowing full well that the candidate must follow party line.

When you get right down to it, if the election act states independent candidates can run in an election, why shouldn't the independent have access to the same funding arrangement a candidate within a party has?

This is why I feel it important the COIC is setting up to assist and promote all independent candidates .

There is no question that the system favours the now established parties while shuting out lesser parties and independants but why in the name of all reason one would want to perpetuate the existing parlimentry systen in any guise is a question even the gods cannot answer.<br />

The box I was in for 20 years was a liberal box and then for 7 years it was an NDP box. I should be ashamed to say it but I was 50 years old when I finally realized that all political parties do, is use its members.

In my opinion and it is just an opinion , in order for the taxpayers to get any kind of justice, we must turn our backs on all party candidates.

We should all be sending letters off to Elections Canada demanding that independent candidates be given the same equal opportunity, under the election act to raise funds, just as those candidates belonging to a party.

We need independents in our House of Commons and our provincial legislatures, to stop this sick relationship the Harper tories have with the USA and the liberals and NDP are no better, they are letting it happen.

Canada does not have one government agency, department or instituation that is creditable. What the RCMP and the government did when they send Arar to 3rd country for torture, tells me that they are capiable of doing the same to you or I .

We can take back our country and we can do it without firing a single shot... all we have to do is to stop supporting these vile political parties we have here in Canada.

Party politicians are not welcome on my property and they never will be.My actions might be the actions of one person , but this is how I will make my stand.

I will listen to any candidate that is not connected to a party, I will hear them out.

The United States dictates the rules of any agreement it signs. When things go in their favor the rules are fine. When U.S. starts to feel as though they are losing something, whether real or not, then the agreement must be renegotiated or they tax, ban or put tariffs in place to force re-negotiations in their favour. Remember NAFTA and the NAFTA dispute board was created by the United States with three Americans sitting on it out of five.

The U.S. informs its allies but does not consult them. What would be different with the Missile Shield Program? Canada went down the road to peacekeeping in the 1960's with the U.S.'s blessing because the United States said the next War would be nuclear war fought with ICBMs and they would defend North America not Canada. The U.S. didn't want Canada interfering. Yet, now the U.S. condemns Canada for the size of its military and its involvement in peacekeeping. Why, because it limits Canada's ability to go and do their bidding in other parts of the world because other nations don't trust or fear them. As for international organizations and law the U.S. will accept their judgments or use their procedures if it wills to do so but not otherwise. Canada as well as Canadians have accommodated the United States in the past to a nationally detrimental point and now look were we are. As long as the U.S. government can control, influence and force the directions and decisions the Canadian Government makes America doesn't have to invade Canada or do anything for Canadians but they will own us. Canada has to be ruled for Canadians by Canadians and accountable to Canadian and International Law only not the U.S.A.

"Why are charges not filed! Why are people not in jail over this!"

Because there's no one with a big enough stick willing to do what it takes to make these criminals go to prison for their crimes against the Canadian people. Who are you going to call for help, you can't demand the RCMP to arrest their own at the highest levels, nor can you expect CSIS to do the same, and the military answers to no one but their corrupt masters, so who exactly is *not* part of the problem that has a big enough stick to make these criminals answer for their crimes?

You know the answer, we the people have to form a new government to chase away these nutters, and there's only one way to do such a thing. Every last politician in the existing establishment must be purged, with new people unaffiliated with the establishment assuming the role.

Unfortunately the people will have to rise up in arms before such a massive change happens, therefore the situation will first have to get a lot worse before it can get any better.

BTW, the madmen in power have been tightening their grip over the people right after the 9/11 scam, and the scam continues with an almost daily diet of both faked and manufactured terrorist events that have been keeping the uninformed masses frightened enough to want more "protection", which they are ever so eager to serve up.

I'm having a bad case of de ja'vu right now and I don't know why. I made a
typo that brought the deja vu on. Is it my spelling that is doing it? Maybe, I'm
very tired. Whatever, I shall try my best to sort this out to some sort of sense.
are we scared yet, are they?

Yes, it is time to question our too close ties with security with the US. It is not
simply security via the RCMP or the SQ or any proto-facist paramilitary placed
by either Harper or Bush to keep terrorist out or shampoo bottles out too, or
even more importantly, to keep us in. It is is the process for the SPP and to a
less degree TILMA. People must behave. And to be seen to behave. Just like
good little CRAP Cons. Are we scared yet? Are they scared yet?

They are wrong if they think we will all stand are attention being good little
winged monkeys. Some one will knock over a bucket of water and we know
how well that turned out for that old bitch of the west or east, I always get
them mixed up. Are we scared yet? Are they?
