It's interesting to note that there are other political parties in China, but at very small local levels. In reality the only real party in the country is the Communist Party (although when I say communist when referring to China, I mean that in the loosest possible sense of the word).
It was an interesting experience for me, living in China for two years. I was able to witness corruption for the first time up close (and sadly I returned home to find literally the same thing going on here in Canada). For example, a contract isn't worth much, it can be broken at almost any time, and in most cases it is broken by the employer and not the employee.
I had (and continue to have) friends over there who sign a contract for a specific period of time and for an aproximate amount of money per month. In many cases what they're paid afterwards is not what was agreed upon, and in some cases they can wake up one morning with no money, no flat, and no job. This happened to a friend of mine from Liverpool. He had to have is mum wire him the money from England in order to get out of the country.
I think the problem with China is that it is too bloody big. It's hard to maintain control with what is going on overthere, bribes are common place. I've seen people get into accidents in the centre of town and then proceed to bribe the policeman in order to avoid getting a ticket. They say it cuts down on paperwork.
