The group is embarking on efforts to lure petrochemical firms into making a start on an estimated $23 billion in new plant construction needed to take full advantage of forecast oilsands production growth, said Shelley and Justin Riemer, executive director of Alberta Industry's investment and development branch.
The overtures replace earlier, unsuccessful attempts by Alberta economic diversification planners to attract a single, mammoth investment of $7 billion to $10 billion in building a new mega-refinery in the industrial district surrounding Fort Saskatchewan.
