Planets Aligning In Martin's Favour

If this week's narrow election victory is to be more than a reprieve, Martin's administration must move swiftly from simply articulating bold ideas to implementing innovative policies and programs. First he must rule with the authority, discipline and purpose missing from last winter's five largely wasted months in power, and then he must eventually engineer the government's defeat on an issue favourable enough to secure the second term he wants. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1088806210045&call_pageid=968332188492&col=Columnist969907626423

Martin's a lucky dog from today's perspective but he did lose a majority he could have ridden for a while yet, and if he really had been interested in policies that were right for Canada he could have implemented them with that majority instead of wanting his 'own' majority. Appears to be an ego thing mostly. Calling the election immediately after the birth of an opposition and before the judiciary opens up the scandals was also shrewdly Machiavellian, would have worked perfectly for him if he had gotten the majority he thought he would get, he could have easily stomped on the judicial inquiries and ignored all the other parties in the House. He'll need the planets behind him now, even Planet Hollywood, perhaps Bozo from U2 will lobby the Bloc, NDP and Conservatives for him?
