Harper's Rocky First Week - Just How Bad Were His First 5 Days As P.M.?

Posted on Saturday, February 11 at 11:40 by BC Mary
"It's sort of like, 'The best laid plans go awry,"' said Jonathan Rose, an expert in political communications at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont. "It reminds us that politics is the stuff of individual personalities and people who often are at odds with the leadership of the party." Just how bad were Harper's first five days in office? Let us count the ways: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2006/02/10/pf-1436121.html

Hard to say just how bad it is- I watch CBC and they've said almost nothing about the Cons first week in power. Its all about "Muslims who cant take a joke" and the Olympics. I wonder which side they're on, eh? ;)

    >> CBC and they've said almost nothing about the Cons <<
Go to their web site. Hopefully CBC is the same across Canada. I've been getting their coverage on the Wet Coast.

"I can't help but compare it to the launch of the campaign where everybody said, 'Geez, you guys just ended it before it started with the same-sex (marriage) comment.' These things all pass." It used to be that yes "These things all pass", but I don't think we should let things we disagree with pass anymore. Afterall if we want change we have to not let these things pass. The reason we have such buffoons sitting in our HOC is because we let them sit there without yanking on their chains ourselves. Harper needs to come into the light and let the people of Canada know what is going on behind closed doors. When is HE going to answer to the people for their concerns about what he is doing with the appointments he has made thus far? WHERE IS HE HIDING? In that shutter closed office with that big book of "How to be the worst Canadian PM the USA could ask for" on his desk?<p>---<br>"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." Right boflaade. Exactly my point. Out of 13 Top Canadian Stories, only 2 about the Cons cons. I get CBC thru the air like the old days- I have access to CBC and PBS only. Here I see a 1hr telecast- 1/2 local and 1/2 national- the same as on cable or satellite, I believe. A lot of people do not have access to the internet- they see whats on TV. And they're NOT seeing what is really going on because the media is bought and paid for, just like the politicians who are featured in it.

CBC was pro-Conservative pre- election, and they are still pro-Conservative and show it by what they choose to lead with. And right now, thats totally fabricated bullshit about Muslims who "have no sense of humour", rather than politicians who have no qualms about lying, cheating and stealing and doing whatever they want to further their crooked agenda.

    >> worst Canadian PM the USA could ask for" <<

By no means the worst they can ask for. The US must be elated. An MP who makes no concealment, that he is theirs to use at will. He won't sell Canada to the US but give it to them.

    Mr Harper:

It is inconceivable that you should continue trying to occupy the
Prime Minister's Office after having committed so many breaches
of the public trust in your first 5 days in that office.

    I'll try to be brief:

    * You must assume full responsibility for the Emerson and Fortier
    fiascos.

    * You must appoint James Moore as the bona fide Minister of
    Public Works,

    * You must remove the arms lobbyist from the Ministry of National
    Defense,

    * You must appoint a bi-lingual person to the Francophonie job,

    * You must undo the spurious appointment of Michael Fortier to the
    Senate.

I am especially shocked by the contempt shown for the electoral
process (Fortier had better things to do ... Emerson walked away
from his elected duty ... and you endorsed both their actions).

Therefore, I demand that you call a NEW ELECTION ... and let
Canadians decide how best they wish to repair this situation.

Hey I agree with BC Mary!

Well... right up to the point where Mary calls for another election. They cost so much money, and even though they have made some really stupid, some undemocratic, and some just plain weird judgements and moves, another election now is not what we need.

Let's see what the House can do first.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

    boflaade,

You missed my point which I guess was not pointy enough.
I'm asserting that the worst PM Canada could have would be the USA's dream come true PM.

    BC Mary,

Ya why should MPs be allowed to cross the floor when the electorate are not allowed to change their votes and minds two weeks after an election!! FT

How about this? Fo the future, in each constituency, we flip a succession of coins until one candidate is left. On average each of the political parties would have( more or less) the same number of members. This would be a little bit like proportional representation but funnier.

Pointy enough this time and well taken.

Leftists in Canada obviously believe that they deserve "do-overs" on elections when they don't like the results. That childish, egocentric attitude of entitlement rears its ugly head again. At least you BC wackos have two election results to whine about and attempt to delegitimize now. That should take some pressure off of Campbell.

    Zero-sum thinking from a left-winger - how surprising.

So is anything that's "bad" for Canada automatically good for the US, or are there only certain types of bad that benefit our neighbours.

The way you guys talk, you wouldn't think we were talking about two countries that have a long-standing peaceful relationship, not to mention the world's longest undefended border.

You really do consider the US an enemy of Canada (or at least of your own sub-culture within it), don't you? How sad your life must be, having the pop culture, products and ideas of your mortal enemy surrounding us as they do. How can you bear it?

  14. Sun Feb 12, 2006 5:49 pm
If you're so clever, could you please explain what is a "left winger?"

Exactly what is the difference between the forced collectivization of the economy, for the benefit of a certain ruling class, under the phoney names of communism and capitalism, while the propagandists for both are claiming "freedom"?

What is the difference between the communist "internationale" and the capitalist "globalization" ?

Were Stalin, Hitler and Mao right, or left wingers? How about Saddam Hussein and Bush?

As long as you call yourself and "individualist" how about trying to think like one, without the propaganda cliches and platitudes ?
