Government Seeks Input On R&D Program

The government's consultation, announced on Oct. 5th, provides "a quick window" for response, but its timing and scope are very important, said Winnifred Brown, national SR&ED tax credit team leader for Ernst & Young in Montreal. The strong Canadian dollar and continued pressure on businesses to outsource to cheaper venues are adding to concerns about how Canadian businesses can remain competitive in a global marketplace, she said. "We are very positive about this and very supportive of taking advantage of this broad consultation," said Brown. Having the consultations open to anyone, including small businesses as well as large corporations and associations, should help focus on various issues that could make the program more effective for a variety of players. The participation of Canada Revenue Agency means the review can address both practical administrative issues,as well as broader policy issues, Brown said. Information on the consultation can be found on the finance department's website, at www.fin.gc.ca, clicking on "what's new" and following the links. http://www.canada.com/cityguides/winnipeg/info/story.html?id=8fd01019-f27e-491b-a123-a51f91e1c999&k=66853 actually here ;) http://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/copy%20of%20sred_e.html & here's the consultation paper, if anyone cares: http://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/sred_1e.html
