Well, maybe we`ve gotta stop crossing the border to buy goods! You`ll never see me go to Buffalo to buy stuff! Canada first is my motto!

That's fine to say if you have lots of money and don't mind getting ripped off. Those honda minivans that are ten grand cheaper in the US are made in ontario. Ontario has a larger market than Michigan. Ontario and Canadian tax for retailers is only very marginally higher. That means that canadians are overpaying for their vehicles.

This isnt the first time canadian retailers have come under fire. A study a couple of years ago showed that canadians overpay by as much as 40% on their food bills because of the grocery distribution monopoly which has made George Weston the richest man in Canada.

Meanwhile, canadian businesses have often been derided as having low wages even in industries that are more profitable than their better paying american counterparts.

That's the problem with locating 'nationalism' in the business sector, especially the multinational corporate sector. Although the first to lose out are workers in those industries, simply accepting getting gouged by retailers is hardly an effective option either. If the landowners are corrupt, do you continue to support them even though you are making them more wealthy, or do you not support them even though their serfs will suffer. Sounds like a no win situation, which is why there will always be 'socialists' stating that the only thing to do is get rid of the landowner in the first place.

Well certainly, I don`t support getting fleeced. I ain`t rich either. But I do have my allegiances. Sure, I too look for the cheapest price, or the best deal for the price. But I won`t cross the border to do so. It`s just not in me. I understand what you say here, though. Perhaps I am the fool here, but some things I just can`t help. The bottom line for me is: people, sports, politics, government, small business, big business, etc. If its Canadian, I put it first.
