The Site

This site is quickly degrading into a Canada vs. US flame war site. You had better find a way to raise the intellectual bar (or keep it from slipping further) or else we're going to have another ridiculous Canada vs. US flame site, for which there already exists a panoply on the WWW. Vivelecanada.ca should be different than that nonsence.

    Anon,

Maybe your right. Forgive me though for not observing what you observe here.

However, I haven't observed what you have here. I've seen some really heated discussions about Bush and his admin. But that kind of talk you can find amongst American people. Its not just Canadians and Americans who differ on the issue of Bush and his psycho admin.

I think the relationship between Canadians and the Americans are very positive. The relationship between Canadians and Bush is a difference story. Poll's show the majority of Canadians like the U.S., but they dislike the President.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Kevin

This is site devoted to Canadian Sovereignty. There is no doubt that our sovereignty is threatened by America, in particular the Bush administration. So, naturally, on a website for patriotic Canadian nationalists there is going to be some pretty harsh criticism for America and its president. I don't think that this constitutes a flame war, a flame war would be

"America sucks! Bush is a nazi!"-"Oh yeah, you're lucky we don't bomb you into the stone age!" etc...

To my knowledge this isn't the case.

No, no, no, it`s not like that. We don`t hate Americans.Quite the contrary. We still embrace those wonderful things that America has given the world. But we merely deplore the bad, and it is unfortunately true, that the powerbrokers in the USA are undermining Canada`s sovereignty, with the help of some of our sellout Canadian politicians and business people. We only want to save our country, and rebuild it.

Possibly part of the problem is that Americans, especially pro-Bush ones, can post replies anonymously, which are often very "flame"-like.

I agree Dave. Like Kevin, I don't see 'flame' wars here. It's kind of tough to tell one Anon from the other, but here's a little advice to all Anon's:<p> We don't dislike Americans. We dislike the US Administration, and how it has wielded is might over the last 200 years. We dislike American Corporations and their blind quest for bigger profits. If you like the administration or it's corporations, and therfore dislike our position on this - too bad, nothing personal intended.<p> And finally - don't come to a pro-Canada website like this and go all 'ra-ra-America'. Being pro Canadian is not being Anti-American. Don't assume we are less patriotic than you are.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

I'm not sure how this is a US-bashing site, or anti-American (whatever that means) & I don't know why these anon flamers get so much attention. They all come across as trolls.

It's certainly not our attention to have a "flame war" site, but instead, real debate and discussion and positive ideas as well.

We ARE a fairly democratic site, meaning we keep things open to people's comments and discussions, so to a large extent comment is determined by our members and posters. There will be ignorant posts, and trolls, and some flames. Such is the nature of free speech.

We DO referee though by having moderators who can delete posts in comments and forums, and editor(s) who check posts to the main site before putting them up. That keeps things from degenerating into hatred, sex talk, ads, etc.--and into too many flames without real content or thought behind them.

I'm proud of how clean we're keeping it, although we're always open to suggestions for improvement. Of course, the best way to "raise the intellectual bar" etc is for people to post more insightful, original content. Go for it, anonymous--if there's something you'd like to see here, post it with the "submit" form and keep making comments.

Ok, maybe I jumped the gun a bit (I wasn't even expecting this comment to be open for general discussion, it was really only intended for the administrator's eyes). There are mostly very good comments here at vive. I'm just a little rattled by the slew of stupid postings lately by certain non-Canadians which leads me to fear the site may eventually degrade into a CNN crossfire type environment.

BTW, I do plan to eventually register, it;s just that im too damn lazy to retype my user name every type I post...

Don't see more flaming than I get from my coworkers or my Father. My Dad is a died in the wool Union Man. Worked for the railroad for 30 years. Never took a promotion because he would have had to leave the union and become management. A very dirty word that one.

He and I used to argue mightily about Clinton who I mistakenly voted for once. He did it twice, go figure. We can't argue as much now as he has a heart condition and my mother and my wife swear I'm going to kill him.

Bring it on, I'll try and stay cool but there is an undercurrent of nastiness that surfaces from time to time and I've only been here two days. I don't know much about Canada. Like hockey though.

    Anon,

Welcome Buck. The written word is very difficult to express feelings and emotions with. Some postings may not be intended the way the reader interprets them. Canadians also have a very subtle sense of humour (How 'bout those Red Wings!) so some of us resort to 'emoticons' such as :-). Look them up, they'll help you understand us.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />
