Amnesty Int Petition For Inquiry Into Maher Arar Deportation

Posted on Saturday, November 08 at 09:51 by sthompson
Amnesty International is calling for a public inquiry into what role, if any, Canadian law enforcement and security agencies played in his deportation to Syria. Without the answers, there is no guarantee it won't happen again.

With \"security\" like this why do I feel so insecure?

And for those people that believe we\'ll all be safer being fingerprinted, IDed and databased for our own good, I\'d like to suggest that you do not know what day \"security\" could be coming for you. Because what you consider benign activity today could become the security threat of tomorrow. We really need to take responsibility for the kind of world we want to be living in and stop leaving it up to other less invested people to look out for us!

well, it is another example of just how our eunuch government is a bunch of American lackeys!!! This whole notion of \'security\' is bogus, because if terrorists want to hurt us, THEY`LL FIND A WAY, unfortunately. But to give up certain freedoms for security, (or more appropriately, have freedoms taken away) is just a mechanism for the corporate fascists to cement more control over the people!!!

Here in Vancouver, the U.S. consulate has begun fingerprinting Canadians who apply for work visas. On the CBC, the consulate said the CIA and FBI would not have \"unlimited\" or \"open\" access to the information, meaning they can request information on individual Canadians. Plus, there are other intelligence organizations than the CIA and FBI. There is the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security--they weren\'t mentioned

Later the consulate changed their story, saying the CIA or FBI would have no access, period. What do you believe? And do you believe the assurances Statcan gives that Lockheed Martin won\'t hand over our census information in the same way?

There was a really good discussion over at K5 (http://www.kuro5hin.org/) on the front page about Mr Arar's case. <a href='http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2003/11/5/94852/0804'>Linky Linky</a><p> After you read it, you'll DEMAND a public inquiry into his case. <p> <p>---<br>"History does nor repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain

Arar is a citizen of Syria - he hasn\'t given it up. Therefore he can be deported to Syria by any country except Canada. Canada is not at fault here and the US did not act illegally or immorally. Syria is the evil player here, where is the outrage against this dictatorship?
