Oilsands = Cancer ?

Posted on Sunday, March 12 at 11:53 by Anonymous
Syncrude and Suncor extract and process hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a day in their oil sands projects near the community. Further development is planned for the oilsands, which cover an area in northwestern Alberta that's larger than the state of Florida. But Fort McMurray Medical Examiner Dr. John O'Connor says he'd like some answers before more developments are approved. O'Connor says he is diagnosing unusually high numbers of immune system diseases affecting the thyroid and less serious ones such as rhumatoid arthritis and skin rashes. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/03/10/oilsands-chipewyan060310.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on March 13, 2006]

There are other communities closer and the tar sands were under development for decades. There are certainly daily report's indicating something new that will cause cancer. Perhaps oil in sand may be another one. Hopefully, these natives will receive some sort of compensation. Perhaps a land claim is in the works and it'll be found the cancer was caused by something else.

sounds like the previous commentor may work for WCB or some other insurance racket.

yes you may be sick, but ingesting oil hasn't been proven to be bad as far as we know.and no you cannot see those secret test findings we use as a BENCHMARK,cause then you would know what cheats the BIG BUSINESS COMMUNITY really are.what bad citizens they are and the lengths they go to colour themselves as good corporate citizens.using blood money to grease the wheels of government and deny the ordinary citizen any rights to health or compensation.

and lets face it...it's not like whites are getting sick,eh?

and lets face it...it's not like whites are getting sick,eh?<

And why is that. Do they not live in the area as well?

Just a thought here before we go off on the racial diving board. Is it possiable due to Fist Nation genetical makeup that oil tar or whatever it is in those sands could cause sickness in them only?

those sands could cause sickness in them only? <<

It is possible and they probably lived there longest. The Tarsands were probably there as long as mankind. The sand have been investigated and probed for over 40 years.

the fact that FIRST NATIONS live off the lands ,does escape many people who think their knowledge is INFALLABLE...

the FOOD CHAIN ,escapes people that live out of canned food tins and shop at big box stores ,like WAL MART and COSTCO...

ever eat fresh caught fish right off the hook ? ever eat rabbit caught right out of the trap ,fried in a pan of bacon fat ?

    think slow,and say ...FOOD CHAIN...THEN THINK...BERRIES...ETCETRA.

I was born and raised in the area. I ate the same berries etc. Think again if you suggest this is the normal life in Fort McMurray or Athabasca. Not today. The trap lines and scrouging for food off the land is long gone. I don't deny people get cancer. Some do from their own homes and elsewhere. Just because it occurred near the Tar-sands, don't jump the gun. Those oil pits are a god sent to some and a demon to others. Those who are making money on it and those who aren't. More then anything else, the tar sands are the center of attraction. OJ Simpson's trial would not have been such a big event if he were broke.

with poverty a millstone around the neck of natives, they indeed hunt and gather, like they have done from the dawn of time.

showing your ignorance is really incredible .just because you don't see it,means it does'nt happen. WOW ! i am impressed someone can even stand behind that statement you made...in public ,on the internet,in black and white...WOW !

"showing your ignorance is really incredible"

You seem to have a knack for it though. As B. said, I've lived in the area too. Ever been to Ft. MacKay? Those natives are far above the need to live off the land. I doubt many could even snare a rabbit.

You haven't a clue about which you speak.

Get of the pot. I lived there until 1969 and still go back to the home I have there. You see from a distance and say it's true. You've never been there. Even in 1969 there was no such thing. I went to school with the kids you now say "hunt & Gather. They did very little even then let alone now.

    Ft. MacKay

Wow! I've run across some one that's been in my old romping grounds. They overcame the floating muskeg and the main roads are 2nd to none.

    Sorry this is off topic

Did you even bother to read the content of this site? Majority of the employment is related to the Athabasca Tar Sands. Not bad wages for those living in poverty.
---
Expect little from life and get more from it.

if you knew how to follow links you would find all pertinent info, but as you have shown a limited IQ ,i cannot stand around and teach you how to properly search through links...your problem.

and as a welder i have been across canada over 17 times ,and nothern climes a dozen...and yes i have been there.

again you prove how little intelligence it takes to get on the internet and show people how little you really know about the area you say you grew up in,either you are totaly vacant ,or a liar
