In the absence of bombs and airline tickets, and in many cases passports, it could be pretty difficult to convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt that individuals intended to go through with suicide bombings, whatever rash stuff they may have bragged in internet chat rooms.
What is more, many of those arrested had been under surveillance for over a year - like thousands of other British Muslims. And not just Muslims. Like me. Nothing from that surveillance had indicated the need for early arrests.
Then an interrogation in Pakistan revealed the details of this amazing plot to blow up multiple planes - which, rather extraordinarily, had not turned up in a year of surveillance. Of course, the interrogators of the Pakistani dictator have their ways of making people sing like canaries. As I witnessed in Uzbekistan, you can get the most extraordinary information this way. Trouble is it always tends to give the interrogators all they might want, and more, in a desperate effort to stop or avert torture. What it doesn't give is the truth.

[Editor's note: A little tidbit here too:
"The British security sources told CNN they are confident evidence of explosives will be found, even as police conducted a detailed forensic examination of one suspect's residence. Photographs taken by a neighbor showed police removing plastic containers from the flat."

Yes, that's the story this latest "terrorist plot" reminds me of.
As for the "evidence", I'm supremely confident that the investigators will find whatever evidence they are supposed to, even if it has to be planted.

Expect little from life and get more from it.
I guess when I say I would kill people that makes me a terrorist. I will not comply with a national mandatory ID card that I must present to each fucktard government scum bag, that folks, is facism, HELLO!!! If I lived in 1930's Nazi Germany I would have died killing Nazis and I will do the same thing in present day Canada. I elect the government, I pay their way, they need to listen. People should not be afraid of the government, the government should be afraid of the people, very afraid!

I wonder if there was any "pressure from U.S. officials" to "discover" the plot in Ontario as well...........<p>---<br>"We can have a democracy or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few. We cannot have both."<br />

It's a sham, and it looked like it from the start. Transport Canada's expected knee-jerk reaction is worse as it is blatantly obvious that their actions do not "make us safer" (as if they were intended to).
