Pettigrew: More Immigrants Are Needed

Posted on Wednesday, October 19 at 10:10 by drcaleb
Canada's population of just under 32 million has grown by only three million in the past decade. The foreign affairs minister added that Canada was built by immigrants and that's the way it will continue to be built. But he insisted that new immigrants would not be used to help cover the government pensions of baby boomers leaving the work force. Pettigrew made his comments in Montreal after a speech on the federal government's new foreign policy. He reiterated before the Montreal Board of Trade that Canada must speak with one voice on the international stage. Citing the Kyoto accord on greenhouse gases, Pettigrew said a province like Alberta could not be allowed to express a point of view that is not Canada's, even though it has jurisdiction over its own natural resources and environment. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/10/13/1261108-cp.html http://www.recorder.ca/cp/National/051013/n1013117A.html ---------------- That's not what drew my attention to this article. The quote below did! "I believe Quebecers make an important contribution to Canada's voice on the international scene," Pettigrew said. "The first priority I have as foreign affairs minister is to make sure Canada's voice reflects the aspirations of Quebecers." WHAT??? PARDON ME??? -Dr.C [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 20, 2005]

    Does Canada need a Pim Fortuyn to present the opposite view or something like: "Canada is full"?

    The reason I ask is the previous posting about the environmental disasters looming in China.....

    Does any egalitarian need any more proof that our government is trying to kill us or replace us?

    -They make it impossible to afford families, promote feminism, gay marriage and abortion against the majority's will, then tell us we have a "labour shortage".

    -The tell us we are a big, empty country, despite the fact we have very litte arable land for farming, most live in a few cities like in Russia, and we are losing a lot of farmland to urban sprawl, thanks to immigration to the Golen Horseshoe in Ontario, among other places.

    -They keep lying about history by saying "Canada has ALWAYS been built by immigrants", ignoring the fact that the najority of the country is Canadian born, even now.

    -They use the tone "whether we like it or not".

    How have we let this band of punks and traitors get away with this for so long?

    They are now telling us, though we have over 7% unemployment, that we need another 8 MILLION PEOPLE--from the third world no doubt.

    One more thing:

    I won't even mention the insane comments by Pettigrew on the Quebec issue Dr. Caleb pointed out.

    Here's what Pettigrew didn't mention:

    Canada was PARTIALLY built by immigrants, but they were WHITE, WESTERN immigrants, not third immigrants, and they were not given all of the free handouts and family reunification immigrants now get.

    This is an attempt to reduce the power of working people by creating more competition for their jobs. The corporate handlers behind Paul Martin want to bring in more cheap labour in order to drive those pesky unions into the ground.

    A bigger population to build more roads and infrastructure also puts more strain on the medical and education systems not to mention the environment.

    I am a stickler for details, so once last time please veryone comment on the insanity of Pettigrew's argument:<br />
    <br />
    "CANADA MUST INCREASE ITS POPULATION TO 40 MILLION TO PAY FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES?" ??!!!<br />
    <br />
    8 MILLION PEOPLE IS THE POPULATION OF SWEDEN FOR DAMN SAKE. insannniittyyyy.<br />
    <br />
    HERE ARE THE REAL REASONS WE HAVE NO MONEY:<br />
    <br />
    1 - LOW CORPORATE TAXES AND CORPORATE GREED,<br />
    <br />
    2 - TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, MASSIVE, LONG-TERM PRIVATE DEBT:<br />

    I have to agree with the majority sentiment on this page... we do NOT need more immigrants. That is not to say we won't allow any in the future, but for God's sake, enough is enough. Can't we at least slow it down to more manageable levels? My Vancouver-based employer loves immigrants, because they clamour for min. wage jobs. His feeling is that if we don't like our jobs or job conditions, we can easily be replaced by immigrants who are more than happy to work for $8 an hour. It's fairly clear to anyone why this city is called HONGcouver (sorry if that sounds prejudiced... truly, I'm not, just ask my Asian partner)... and it doesn't appear to be slowing down at all.

    The destruction of all western countries was not designed to slow down, and it won't unless we put up a lot more resistance.

    He say's Canada should speak with one voice and emphasis on Quebec. A contridiction which destroys his validity.
    As far as immigration, I agree. Too few people trying to pay for the maintenance of the worlds second largest country. Canadians are to dependent on big brother whereas immigrants usualy had to cope on their own. We need people who believe hard work merits rewards and not reliant on the government to solve their problems. Every generation of Canadian is gripping about the cost of living on one hand and demanding more with the other. It has to stop. I'm not looking forward to another generation of give-me's. Set the defaults for immigrants that will help Canada help itself.

    Dear Mr. Racist,

    Sweden is a fraction of the size of Canada. You could fit two or three Sweden’s in each Canadian province. Your thinly veiled attempt to cover over your rampant racism is weak, and well rather pathetic.

    It is relatively obvious you are a white man who feels threatened by foreigners. I would surmise you have never traveled nor even attempted to try to learn about other people. You claim Canada was built by white people. In fact I know of hundreds of thousands if not millions of Aboriginals were here before them. They are still here, as are the white people, and all those that came after them.

    If you want to talk about "building" the nation, out West the majority of the good old grunt labour was done by the dastard Chinese and East Indians! You remember the building of the railways, and the all the sawmills across Alberta and BC don't you?

    Racists - to be looked down on, for they don’t know how dumb they really are! Stickler for details indeed...

    He also says "Citing the Kyoto accord on greenhouse gases, Pettigrew said a province like Alberta could not be allowed to express a point of view that is not Canada's"

    So Canada's voice should be Quebec, and Alberta should shut the hell up. Throw another log on the Western Alienation fire.

    boflaade, you agree with who on immigration?

    We have wealth in Canada, it is simply going to corporations, and not to governments.

    Please clarify what you mean.

    Liberals are good at creating problems.

    This being said, it qould take a while IMO for western separatism to reach the level that it is in Quebec.

    You forgot to mention Ukrainians who also happen to be white and made a major contribution to building the west along with other europeans..............who is the racist now!!!

    It's only about race if you make it a racial issue. And *you* forgot the Russians, Romainians, Germans . . . ;)
