Klein Wants Closer Trade Ties With U.S.

Posted on Thursday, November 18 at 10:57 by N Say
Mr. Klein, who is in the homestretch of a provincial election campaign that will likely see him win a fourth mandate as premier, told a business audience in Calgary that his government is already expanding major highway trade routes as part of its plan to "develop a customs union with the United States."

"Basically that is to co-ordinate efforts to create a smart border crossing whereby trucks carrying goods and products can clear customs in a much more efficient manner," he told reporters later.

"It goes further than that."

Officials with the Alberta government said the province aims to get the federal government to agree to harmonizing trade rules beyond the scope outlined in the North American free-trade agreement

A customs union could amount to a North American trading bloc with the rest of the world, which means economic integration beyond NAFTA and may include common labour, environmental and security standards.

Klein is a Bilderberger too. Big surprise. Albertans who vote for him are so bltatntly naive, not that the other parties would necessarily be better.

    -own all sides. :)

Klein should just move there once and for all. He's not even a has been, he's a never was. Klein is Canada's worst Premiere ever. It's too bad Albertans haven't woken up to that fact yet.

Klein has to be one of the worst premieres in Canada. Ever. (I forgot about mike harris)

He has no respect for the country, his own Albertans, and is a recovering alcoholic who should have been tossed aside long ago. Recovering alcoholics that are trying to change their life should be helped, but you can't help an alcoholic that doesn't want to change.

Many recovering alcoholics get a different slant on life when they stop drinking, so I suspect Ralphie probably never stopped, just hid it from view.

I come from a very violent alcoholic family and saw some extremely nasty things that affected me for the rest of my life, so take it from me, he hasn't changed.

    It shows.

Yeah, he`s a beauty, alright. Anyone could look good being premier of a province as fortunate as Alberta. Funny, though, with all that natural wealth, and now supposedly no debt, Klein is a strong advocate of privatizing health care! Like it was said before, I just wish people like him would go away!

Klein's got the right idea - it's long past due, we should have worked out a customs union with the US years ago, especially since our economy is so dependent on the US market.

Canadians don`t want a customs union, or an economic union for that matter, with the United States. Fair trade, sure, but we`re not prepared to give up our sovereignty or our country. The present band of theives who call themselves leaders don`t speak for the majority of Canadians! Not to mention, there`s no need to be, um, 'dependent' on the US for anything! If anything, they depend on Canada and her vast pools of natural resources.

38 US States list Canada as their number 1 export market. The US economy is dependant on Canada. We are their number 1 import source of gas, oil and electricity. With the Euro dollar vying for the position of fiat currency, the US becomes more and more dependant on tribute trade relations with Canada and Mexico. Tribute trade relations are the type that require Mexico and Canada exporters to pay duties, tariffs, and fines plus be subjected to outright bans while the US exporters are not. Our political leaders lack the guts to stand up for Canadian interests.

Actually, Anon, you just showed us what kind of person you truly are by telling us you drink Lucky. To set the record straight, at BCLD stores Lucky is $8.95 for 6. Wow, you save yourself $2.60 on rot gut, good one. No one in BC drinks that crap.
