Global television is doing a feature where they are reviewing comments by citizens suggesting what Paul Martin's government could/should cut in its full review of government spending. There is an opportunity to post comments on their website that could make it into their news report.

That was a waste of time. Everyone wants to cut something. If we implemented monetary reform properly, we could afford all the above and more.

The Canadian public must be made aware of the benefits to monetary reform. It worked well in the 50\'s and 60\'s, and only stopped working when they changed the whole system to one of the right-wing agendas.

Government created money, properly used, gives the government interest-free money to use for many things, as in debt reduction, social programs, and it would not take that many years to see our country green again.

It is corporate Canada and corporate America that are destroying our country, and putting us in unsustainable debt.

We will always keep falling behind with these policies in place.

I appreciate this Jim, but EVERY credible, and well-respected adult I have talked to on this subject doesn\'t know what you\'re talking about. I think I understand, but what is the best place to learn about monetary reform.....is it Hellyer\'s book?

I\'m not Jim but here\'s what I know:
Hellyer explains this monetary reform on the CAP website, haven\'t read the book yet so I don\'t know if it\'s in there.
He seems to be a very thoughtful person who\'s done his research, has been in politics long enough to know the pitfalls. I hope for Canada\'s sake he can get people informed before the next election.

The best book by Paul Hellyer that covers Monetary Reform is called Funny Money. It was written in the early 90\'s but is always relevant in any time.

What Monetary Reform is, in a nutshell, is the ability of the government to actually print the money they need to run the country. They then give it to the banks and get long term bonds in return.

They use these bonds (I\'m a little fuzzy here how this part works) but this money the government now has is Interest-free.

That is how they were able to build the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Trans-Canada highway, and large infrastructue projects.

The banks still make money by loaning out the money that they got from the government. This is called High-Powered money (I don\'t really understand the meaning of that) but the banks make money on this, just not as much as they used to.

Trust me, they still do very, very well under this system. It\'s the greed factor that makes them lobby the government to give the banks the ability to loan money to the government, but that puts us into immediate debt, and at our current debtload, we will never catch up, because the interest is compunding, so our current system is unsustainable.

We cannot go on like this or we will collapse financially someday.

Enough, I think or hope you get the idea.

Go to the CAP website www.canadianactionparty.ca and you can purchase Funny Money for $10 CDN, mailed right to your door.

One Big Party is $15 CDN. Great reading, and great bargains.

Go for it, then loan them to your friends.

Only if you are on high speed. I am on 28.8 on a good day, do you know how long it takes to open each Page ?

You are right, though, it is good info, and well done.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I believe fibre-optic cable is fairly prevalent across Canada, but is still inconsistent at times......until recently I had dial-up, and then I got Pathway ASDL high-speed access, and I\'m already taking it for granted. I would definitely recommend Pathway (a local Toronto provide, like Eco) over Rogers or Bell Sympatico, for anyone who is in the Toronto area....it may be available elsewhere.....I found Bell\'s high-speed dial-up especially slow at a friend\'s place, especially given the added price.
