Managers to lose overtime

Managerial staff in Manitoba will not be able to collect overtime pay if legislation tabled in the house yesterday passes into law.

Under the amended legislation introduced by the province, managers and other workers whose earnings meet a minimum threshold -- about $68,000 -- and exert control over their own work schedule will be exempt from overtime pay.

Labour Minister Nancy Allan said changes to the Employment Standards Code will, if passed, modernize workplaces.

"We are pleased to move on this legislation which reflects the consensus reached by labour and management representatives of the Labour Management Review Committee," said Allan.
