Cellucci's replacement "less confrontational", more ignorant

So US Pres Bush picked a new US ambassador to Canada--who has shown no previous interest in the country, and has only been here once, in the 70s. His main qualifications appear to be close ties to the Bush family and his strong Republican loyalty.

The guy is supposed to be "less confrontational" than Cellucci, which I admit would be nice if perhaps a little less honest. But you'd think actually knowing something about the country you're ambassador to would be an important part of the job, so you have to wonder whether this guy will just be completely incompetent. Although I guess knowledge about Canada and a desire to visit aren't really easy to come by in any part of the Bush government, anyway, US President included.
