Troop levels in Iraq would remain nearly the same through 2008 as they have been through most of the five years of war there....

The US entered WWII, essentially from 1942 through to 1946, fought a war on two fronts, and came out of that war "bucks up" as well as the world's pre-emminent superpower.

That it has been in Iraq for five years can only make sense from the perspective that it really doesn't want to win that "splendid little war" so much as it wants to have a permanent presence in the region.

If (as so many are inclined to think), it's all about oil, then it is a senseless squandering of money, lives and resources.  At $100,000 a minute, it would have been far less costly to the economy and the people of the United States to simply BUY the stuff.



So why IS the U.S. in Iraq?
