Boeing, Bingen company developing sniper detector

ST. LOUIS -- Imagine that a sniper takes a shot at U.S. troops and then immediately shows up on live U.S. surveillance video to become a target himself.

Boeing Defense Systems in Saint Louis has been awarded an Air Force contract to put gunfire detection technology on board the unmanned surveillance aircraft it's developing with the Insitu (in-SIT'-yoo) company of Bingen (BIN'-jin), Washington.

The flying sniper detector could be used to protect convoys and military bases.
