Background

Canadian, U.S., and Mexican elites, including CEOS and politicians, have a plan to create common North American policies and further integrate our economies into a North American Union.

This plan goes by various names:

  • Deep Integration
  • Harmonization
  • NAFTA-plus
  • the "Big Idea" (C.D. Howe Institute)
  • the "North American Security and Prosperity Initiative" (The Canadian Council of Chief Executives)
  • Americanization

The end goal of the plan is to create a North American Union (NAU) by 2007, a new political and economic entity that would supercede the current countries of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

Despite the fact that most Canadians want LESS integration with the United States under Bush, not more, this plan and the process of deep integration are unfortunately well underway. The Canadian government has already:

For a full timeline of the progress of deep integration and the creation of the North American Union (NAU), see our Timeline of the Progress Towards a North American Union.

We are running out of time to stop the process of integration. Help us keep Canada strong and free. Please join us in our ribbon campaign and say NO to deep integration!

Become a Red and White Ribbon Site

Display the Red and White Ribbon to oppose deep integration with the United States and the Americanization of Canadian public policy. Please place a Red and White Ribbon Campaign icon (below) on your servers and web pages to support this campaign.

Red and white were chosen because they are the colours of the Canadian flag. Since the U.S. flag is red, white and blue, wearing a ribbon which is red and white symbolizes a commitment to Canadian sovereignty. There is no blue on this ribbon.

Copy and paste this text into your HTML web page where you want the Red and White Ribbon icon to appear:

Fabric Ribbons

Vive may start selling fabric ribbons at some point. But meanwhile you can make your own.

You will need two lengths of ribbon (one red and one white), approximately 2 to 3 inches (or 6 to 8 cm) in length, as well as a safety pin.

1. Hold the two ribbons so that they overlap slightly and fold it over into a ribbon shape (like the web banner above).

2. Attach the safety pin where the ribbon crosses over.

3. Pin the ribbon to your coat, jacket or bag and if people ask (or even if they don't), tell them why you're wearing it and where they can find more information about the Red and White Ribbon Campaign (www.vivelecanada.ca).

Informational Poster

You can download and print out an information sheet which has the background information provided here on one side and an enlarged Red and White Ribbon Campaign logo on the other. The information sheet is suitable for display in your car or home windows, and would also make a good flyer or poster.

Download document (PDF): http://www.vivelecanada.ca/downloads/NoDeep.pdf

(Special thanks to the Vive member who came up with this idea, and designed the information sheet.)
