When Harper announces a 'National Energy Policy' like Trudeau's that has oil and gas rich provinces sharing the wealth with other provinces, THEN we'll talk about 'the socially conservative Trudeau'. It's pretty hard to be a new Trudeau if your idea of a federation is opposite to what his was.

Nationalism is seen as inconsistent with the values of the new Conservatives. That is because they support continential integration and globalization, the same as the Liberals.

First and foremost, Stephen Harper is an economic conservative, also referred to as a neo-liberal or neo-conservative. This ideology believes that national governments should not interfere in "free markets." You cannot support nationalism and at the same time interfere with the power of international capital.

People in the United States are having problems with understanding the same issue. The transfer of ports to a corporation from Dubai is totally consistent with the new conservative values but at the same time comes into conflict with US nationalism.

Those of us who were traditional more nationalistic conservatives are finding new political homes.

But i guess we have to face the fact that we're not living in the era of Trudeau, Harper has to deal with the globalization of corporations. Come to think of it, privatization may not necessarily be a bad thing. Look at our healthcare system now, it's a dump.

In my opinion we have a good health care system: that is unless your expectations are such that you expect a system in which you can pays thousands for buying your way to the head of the line. If you live in Alberta you may soon get that system.

In the media I hear all kinds of complaints about our system but when I talk to people I know who have had to use the system I get an entirely different perspective. One has to wonder whether there is not a propaganda campaign underway by certain pressure groups to dismantle public health care in the economic self-interest of potential investors.

The lack of conservatives on political forums is caused by their awarenes that their illusions cant stand up to open debate. That is why Harper wasn't too happy about the proposal that his promise to let the US dictate our foreign policy, be debated in the house of commons.
When Dave Barret had his talk show phone in radio program he was critcised for not having any right wingers on.He said he'd love to have them but they refusd to come because their arguements wouldn't stand up to open debate.
Brent

"The lack of conservatives on political forums is caused by their awarenes that their illusions cant stand up to open debate."

-That seems to be a silly blanket statement. There are lots of conservative political forums, but few, to get back to my original point, that are very nationalist.

That is why Harper wasn't too happy about the proposal that his promise to let the US dictate our foreign policy, be debated in the house of commons."

-I don't know anything about this and would like to learn. Can you please provide a link? Thanks.
